Siatica and leg exercises

I haven't done any type of leg exercises (except cardio) since I've been in therapy for my back pain; I'm too scared I'll do something to re-injure myself since some of the leg exercises can be hard on the back but I decided I want to try and reintroduce it into my workout. For those with the same type of problem, what has worked for you?

after my episode of sciatica many years ago i was scared to do anything. I spent at least a year learning proper form before adding weight to anything that used my back. Then i started dead-lifting a 5lb kettelbell , and once i gained confidence, i added weight. it was the best thing for me, it strenghtened my back so much i have never had a drop of back pain again. Free weights have been my best friend. But learning proper deadlift form and eventually going heavy saved my back .0
