Consume less.
Log accurately, monitor weight trend.
When weight loss is happening at a reasonable rate consume that amount of calories.
As weight loss progresses adjust calories dependant on weight trend results.

Stick to the basics. The basics is the number of calories MFP gave you at setup. Hit that every day.
Weigh and log everything you eat (and drink), do it correctly - using the scales, no measuring spoons/cups, weigh in grams, and use database entries that have the values of the food you are eating (or create your own, correct entries).
Do it consistently - no cheating and no forgetting.
Do it for a long time - months, maybe years, which takes patience and commitment.
Have reasonable expectations - you won't lose weight faster than around 1% of your total body weight per week; not losing faster than this does not means failure. You won't be able to see the loss on the scale every week, not even if you stick to your intake and do everything right all the time, because your body is more than fat and those things have a weight, and that weight flucutates.
Eat food you like within your calorie goal. Exercise if you want to.
This is enough to take you where you want to go, and it's enough to keep you occupied. Forget about everything else for the time being, it's just noise. If you find yourself struggling with practical or emotional issues, then ask specific questions.7 -
Set up a reasonable deficit on mfp. If you are very obese that might be 2 pounds per week, but if not then 1 pound per week or even .5 pound if you don't have a lot to lose. Sync your fitbit with mfp. Eat the calorie level mfp gives you plus at least half of your fitbit adjustment. Make sure you set your fitbit to enable negative calories. Eat foods that you like that will keep you at your goal. As you go along you will find which foods keep you satiated and which things leave you hungry. After about 4 weeks reevaluate. If you are losing faster than you expect then you can eat back more of your exercise adjustment. If you are losing slower than expected then eat less of the adjustment. Get a digital food scale and weigh as much of your food as possible. Good luck.0

Just enter your current stats into MFP and it will figure out your calorie intake amount for you. Then start accurately tracking your calorie intake in your MFP food diary area (using a food scale is very helpful for accuracy with portion sizes). For weight loss calorie intake is what matters and not so much macros ratios. MFP tracks all of it for you, but you want to focus mostly on hitting your calorie target0
