Serious water retention

I woke up yesterday and my hands felt "tight" like I was retaining water. I figured it was likely from the pizza I had eaten on Sunday. I flushed myself with water yesterday and by mid-day I felt ok. I woke up this morning to the same thing and 4 lbs. heavier! I was below by 700mg with the sodium yesterday so it's not that. Unless it's residual from the weekend, idk. I have not exercised so it can't be that.
Any thoughts?

Time to see a doctor. Severe water retention like you are describing is something you should see a doctor about.
Being up a few lbs from sodium is normal.
Severe swelling in hands/feet (the tightness you are feeling) is not and needs to be evaluated by a doctor.

I just realized it is about to be that time of the month. Could this be the cause? It generally does not make me retain this much fluid but I guess anything is possible.0

Last time I had severe swelling like that my blood pressure was really high. See a doctor. It's not normal.2

Not sure about the swelling as that doesn't seem right. However water retention and fluctuations are something that affect most people.0

If you don't want to make a doc appointment right now, at least hop into a pharmacy or Walmart/CVS type place with those self serve machines to check your blood pressure. Retaining enough water your skin feels tight without an obvious cause is worrisome.1

Yes, see your doctor. I have huge water weight fluctuations from day to day (up to 6lb) but do not get tight skin like you are describing. Get it checked out.1

Took all the advice and went to the pharmacy and had my pressure taken. It was high. They sent me to the ER. I was given medicine to start taking everyday and have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow.3

Hope it goes ok0

Please update what you find out as I have similar symptoms quite frequently.0

You say you have similar symptoms, but instead of going to your doctor you post here and ask for an update?0 -
My doctor says to keep taking the medicine, watch my sodium intake, and keep losing weight. Scale at the doctor's show another pound lost so I am headed in the right direction!0

My doctor says nothing is wrong and it is because I eat too much sodium.0 -

For some, eating too much sodium can increase your blood pressure as it has with me. If you are retaining fluid, but your blood pressure is normal then I would not stress about it too much. Just know that "for some" eating a lot of foods high in sodium can cause an issue over time as you get older.0 -
Pizza is salty. If you have a salty snack near bedtime that will have a morning water-retention effect on you.

That was my initial thought on Monday morning, but by mid day yesterday it was pretty clear that it wasn't Sunday's pizza.0
