Good weekly loss, small weekly loss, good, small, good, etc

Hi. I've been on this healthier lifestyle journey now for just under 6 months. I'm doing it at a fairly slow pace, focusing more on incorporating more exercise into my daily routine and making better eating choices. I still allow myself family favorites, but smaller quantities, and only when it fits in with daily calorie limits. I feel satisfied and with only 30 lbs down, better already.
My question is this: When I have a good weekly loss (say over 1.5 lbs) -- I weigh in weekly -- the next week is always a very very small loss (like .2 or .4 of a pound), and twice within the past 6 months it's actually gone up that .2 or .4. My weekly routine/eating habits are quite consistent from week to week. This good, bad, good, bad cycle has been consistent since the beginning.
I know from analyzing the big picture, what counts is that my weight is going down, and slow is best according to my physician, but I can't help but get discouraged on that second week when I know my efforts are not going to be realized either visually (or on my chart). In fact, I think I even try harder on that second week--making sure to incorporate more water, etc. etc. Just wondering if anyone out 'there' experienced this same trend, and if so, were you able to break the cycle somehow?

Yep, totally normal for me.
The art is in not becoming discouraged. Whatever the scales say, you are still 30lbs down on what you were 6 months ago.
That is the ONLY number you should be worrying about. Don't concentrate on what you "haven't achieved" (nonsense in itself) this week, but instead focus on how far you've come.
I'm going through that this week myself. Yes, it's a little disappointing to see the predicted blip on the scales, yet again, but I am STILL UNDER 200 lbs and I rejoice in this every single day.0 -

Totally agree! Besides the 30 pound weight loss, you've also acquired many health benefits (I would imagine) like better cholesterol levels, blood pressure, etc. Congratulations on your loss by the way!0 -
THanks and yes. Actually my blood pressure has reduce (in 6 short months) from an average of 157/98 to an amazing 104/70... I am so thrilled.
I was testing the waters to see if anyone had come up with a solution to the 'low-loss week' syndrome that I might try.
Isn't it amazing how much better a person feels with even a 30-pound loss. Now... let's get 'er all off0 -
That's my girl ;-)0
