I have issues almost constantly. Some of it is caused by a couple of hernias...my intestines are all out of wack. I am also yeast intolerant which causes extreme gas and leads to constipation.

This past week I have gradually started cutting back on carbs especially those that contain any yeast. It is slowly getting better but a long way from perfect. I love bread...especially yeast bread...love to make it...I am having to give it up though.

I also ordered ground pysllium husks which is supposed to help staying regular...I will see if that works.

When it get really severe and has been 4 or 5 days without going I will use a suppository as a last result. It is not pleasant but it does relieve the problem at least for a few days.

I wish you luck...I know how uncomfortable that it can be.

What were the hernias like? How did they feel when you got them? What were they from?

The first hernia came about when I lifted a cabinet in to the back of a truck. It was as if someone stuck a knife in my stomach. Hernias are caused by weaknesses in muscles and allows the tissues(in my case part of the intestine) underneath to protrude. The second one I am not sure how it developed. It is smaller and rarely ever bothers me unless I become constipated.

My core is very weak so I have to be careful with the exercises that I do. There are some exercises that I won't even attempt. Weak cores muscle can affect your daily mobility.

One thing that I have learned is not to let myself stay constipated for very long. I don't like taking laxatives as they themselves can cause stomach upsets. As a last resort though I will use a suppository...it is somewhat milder of a reaction.

You said it had been a few days sent you went to the bathroom. I looked up Linzess and it seems as if that is supposed to help. Don't let it go too long. I have had some rounds where I have been very sick due to constipation. Have even ended up in the emergency room a couple of times.

I haven't noticed any certain foods that make matters worse for me other that yeast. So I am trying to eliminate it from my diet. Yeast feeds off of sugar so I am now trying to cut back on carbs.

Have you increased your fiber intake recently? When I started trying to lose weight and increased my vegetable I had so many stomach problems that I was miserable. I did the Fodmap for about a month to relieve the symptoms and then started introducing vegetables back in.

I know that you are frustrated. It can be quite uncomfortable. I wish that I could be of more help...I feel for ya.

Fiber is a non-issue. I've been eating 50g per day for years.

Hmm...I eat a lot of shirataki noodles. The ones with tofu. I wonder if those could cause a problem now.

I think what I need to do in the new year is start eating more simply. I hate the word "clean" but yeah...I think I need to eat more fresh food and eliminate some of the weird diet foods/obsessions I have.

I use Linzess and it is great. Remember, you don't take it everyday. You take it until you have a bowel movement and then you stop until constipation happens again.

Not everyone graduates at the top of their class. Maybe it's time to find a new MD.
