Cooking tomato

Suppose I have an average tomato. Let's say that's 17cal. If I just take the tomato, peel it (assuming the perfect peeling where ONLY the skin comes out and the insides are intact), chop it up and put it in a pan where I heat it and stir it until it becomes a mushy sauce-like kind of thing, how many calories will that be?
Will the heat reduce any of the tomato's energy? I understand its volume will decrease slightly since water will evaporate, but water has no calorific energy so I'm not counting that.
Note that I'm not adding ANY oil to this. Just tomato and heat.

To also generalise the question further? Does heating vegetables decrease calories? By how much? Or maybe not?

Thanks!

A tomato is a tomato, treat it as such. When you add it in add the whole tomato, if you cook it in a sauce, add the condiments, sauce, or oil. That's what I usually do.
  • Thanks for replying, but that's really not the point. I'm wondering about the changes in calories heat makes in vegetables, not recipes or advice.

The calories remain the same when cooked.

I try to practice not worrying. If I can control something I do something about it if I can't then I let it go. Give the guy 1 more day then call him. If he doesn't respond positively know that you are better off with a nice guy that calls. As for you Mother ,I agree with all of the above. You are strong and you are never alone. I am sorry you are sad and hope you can think of positive memories and feel better. We are here for you.

I am not a scientist but I would guess calories in vegetable and fruits to not change when cooked unless you add oil sugar etc. So the tomatoe would still have 17 cal. If there is any calorie loss I think it would be negligible. if you really want to know try a good search.

Meat on the other hand does change calories when cooked b/c fat renders out. For example if you brown ground beef and rinse out the fat you now have a love fat and calorie content.

    What the hell.

Otherwise yes, thank you for your answer. It does make sense.
