How many calories did I eat?

Anyone want to help me guesstimate how many calories this was? (yikes I thought I reduced the size of the picture, but it's still huge!) My husband wanted Chinese after church, so this is what I got. To help, roughly counter clockwise, the plate includes snow peas, tempura battered chicken, bean sprouts, string beans (in margarine, I'd guess) beef from a beef & mushroom dish, honey chicken, sesame chicken, raw broccoli, Japanese chicken, fresh cucumber slices I sampled and an orange section. As a dessert I ate a (not pictured) piece of their "house special", yeast bread rolled in sugar, which is about the size of a large plum. (Or a tangerine, but I like plums better) It does look suspiciously like a small donut, but the bread itself isnt really sweet.
I am so at a loss for these things. Its not a chain so they dont post calories.
Obviously Im not going to know exactly, but wondered if I could get some estimates from people who have done this awhile. Usually I just make really large guesses in my log, but then I end up going hungry the rest of the day because Im afraid Im over. My current target is 1290 for 1 lb/week. (F, 5'3", 187 lb, 53 years, sedentary) Our lifestyle and my husband's preference currently include buffets periodically, so I really need to learn to estimate them. This particular place doesnt have a very well stocked "salad" section, so unlike some places where I stick to the salad bar, I have to make other choices here. Hopefully I did ok, I didnt have breakfast today, but I hope to eat a small meal later today.
thanks
eta: oops just realized I see something behind that piece of honey chicken, I had to think about it, almost forgot, it was a buttered baked potato section.

Thats amazing, I expected guesses to vary quite a bit, but everyone seems to agree. You make it seem seem so easy, how do you do it?!0
-
While not a chain, do use database entries for a chain for the items you got. Panda Express perhaps.
Usually not too much variance within same type of dish (well within what the error of weight would cause as an effect) - so should give a rough figure. It's that weight estimate, unless you are good at it. Some people are or can get good. Others of us are doomed to needing stats.
And this is why certain times of year are just about worthless for attempting to diet, expectations to be with family, eating out frequently, surprises at work, ect. Good time to go to maintenance mode and take break from diet actually.
Just hold to some good patterns, don't keep throwing yourself into failure mode (might as well eat the whole box/tub/batch since I don't know), and hope to get through as unscathed as you can.2 -

If it's Price is Right rules, and I'm going last, I'm going with 1 calorie, because I think everybody else may have overbid slightly.
It's hard to tell without something for scale in the photo (next time you might want to lay a dollar bill on the table right next to the plate, and get it completely in the photo), but assuming the cucumber and orange weren't freak-of-nature county-fair prize winners, I'd think more in the 400-500 range.2 -

She had dessert though which is not in the photo.1 -
Thats a good idea, heybales, checking a similar chain. It isn't really the time of year issue for me, though, this is a after-church and coming from periodic specialist appointments which are an hour's drive away. I try to go to subway when I can, but it's not my husband's preference.
I considered the size scale, (but not at the restaurant!) but I figured the orange and cucumber should work, they are quite normal. You can also see the edge of the soup spoon. Its a normal dinner plate sized plate, not a small one, or extra large one. Im betting the 600 guesses are correct, considering all the chicken has sauce of some sort. Im assuming the guesses are without the house special dessert? Which is probably 100-150 by itself.0 -
LOL and I hear ya with the 1 for Price is Right lolol0

Ooh ok, so you guys were counting the bready thing? Imma go update my log then because I added a separate entry for that. I probably overestimated that, too. =P

The honey glaze and the tempura batter add calories to the chicken. I guess that each little 2 oz piece of chicken has 50 calories of chicken and 150 calories of sauce or batter. Maybe that's a high guess. I counted 6 of those pieces. With the potato, I counted the same thing, 200 calories after the potato and the butter are accounted for.
I guess that the plate has 1600 calories.0 -

I'm going with 725. Please do let us know what you come up with! I want to spin the big wheel and hopefully win the showcase showdown.
ETA: That looks delicious!0 -
I would probably estimate 750 (600 for plate shown, plus 150 for dessert described).0
-
1600 .. yikes! Im pretty sure I would be in big trouble that way, as I only get 1290 (1300 a couple days of the week, whats up with that?) I hope you usually go by what the package or database says, otherwise you might be starving yourself O.o
Since there were like 6 votes for 600, (ok 5, I went back and counted) I went with that. I still ended up with cals left over today, plus I did some cardio, so no worries if it was a little off. It was tasty, but it wasn't nearly so filling I couldn't have eaten a lot more.0 -
i was going to say 3-400, not including the dessert....150 more for dessert0
-
Another vote for around 6001

Oh, that's right. I forgot all about the dessert. Probably another 200 to 300 calories there, depending on how large a plum or tangerine she's thinking of.0
