Protein supplement drink mix?

I just got Allmax Isoflex Whey Protein - Pineapple & Coconut. I'm doing low carb & low calorie. It's tough to eat "enough" protein & not eat carbs - so this looked ok. Any thoughts or recommendations? I tried "muscle milk" and just couldn't drink it - it was so sickly sweet tasting. I'm avoiding sugar (for the diet, also Diabetic).

First drink with the Isoflex Pineapple - it was ... ok. Drinkable, not too sweet. Hoped for more of a citrix taste, I got more of a coconut taste. I might try blending with an orange and maybe some different berries.

If you like the idea of supplements, drinks, shakes and mixes, you can stick to that, just remember that when you go low carb, you also go high fat. Lots of decent foods are combos of protein and fat - meat, fish, eggs, and some are more equally split between protein/carbs/fat - nuts, dairy.1

I'm trying to up meat & fish. Switching to leaner meats. Adding nuts. Looking into adding seeds - like flax (haven't done it yet.)0

You might also want to toss in Chia in addition to Flax for a good overall balance of nutrients. If you don't mind the chemicals, I love the K20 Protein Pink Lemonade...it's more like a snack...5g protein, no fat, 6g carbs, 30 calories. I used to be hooked on this stuff when I went low carb. I also love Quest Nutrition's protein powders. I have replaced most of my snacking thanks to these. They are one of the few I have had that mix well and taste great...but then again, all of those things are a personal taste preference thing.2

I like Muscletech premium whey protein isolate, chocolate flavor. I mix it with 1% milk & it's by far, one of the best tasting protein drinks I've tried. When I'm on the got I use premier protein pre-mixed chocolate.1

If you are doing low calories, adding nuts is counter productive. But more than that, what is your calorie goal and why have you chosen it?0

I'm diabetic (TypeII), and was 100Lbs. overweight. I'm down 25lbs from 260. My calorie goal is 1000Kcal. I want to lose weight, and get to normal BMI and off diabetes med's.0

Are you under a doctor's supervision?
The reason you are struggling to get enough protein is because you are aggressively undereating. If you are working closely with a doctor, perhaps you should ask for a referral to a dietitian to get advice on adequate nutrition on such a low cal diet.0 -
Sort of. I get checkups every 6 months. Last visit was Nov. He always says, lose weight & exercise. That's what I'm doing. I'm planning on contacting him Jan (before next scheduled visit) & discuss diet plan, weight loss, blood work, continuing med's at same level, or not.0

I am on a low carb diet and while I try to get most of my protein from meat, sometimes I just get sick of eating meat so I'll use something called Raw Protein Beyond Organic Protein Formula. It has 3g carbs/3 g fiber, so if you're counting net carbs you zero out. I mix it with a low-carb drink like cashew milk or Almond/Coconut milk blend. And like someone else was saying, flax and chia are great for fiber so I do sometimes 2 T flax and 1 T chia, blend it in a blender and it's a good fiber boost which you need on a low-carb diet. I would say eat more, eat meat, and balance it with low-carb veggies that have lots of micronutrients. Your calorie goal is too low, you need to eat more. I'm sure you want to lose weight as quickly as possible but you will still do so if you up your calories.0

How many lbs per week are you losing? If you are logging accurately and really eating only 1000 cals, that is dangerously low for an adult male. You do have a lot of weight to lose so perhaps your doctor would approve, but I would think you would need close medical monitoring of some kind. Sorry to pry, but that number just struck me as concerning. :drinker:0 -
12lbs 1st week (water probably), 4lbs/wk past two weeks.0
