    Another Texan here...although I'm also British, so I kind of have no idea where I get to stand in this particular thread.

    Wait.

    What?

    You weren't born in Texas ???

    * texans will understand this.

    My dad's favorite joke:

    Him: "What part of Texas are you from?"
    Them: "...I'm from Amsterdam."
    Him: "So, east Texas!"

    I'm from the very Northeast corner of Texas, right on the tri-state line. Back in the days of the railroad Northeast TX was called "The Gateway to the West", but the Western state label always seems to start with New Mexico. Maybe that is why Texas is just Texas who knows? I can see Arkansas from my back yard, and being a state line city most of the identity of the town is Arkansan, woo pig sooie and all that stuff. You really have to get 100 miles west before you lose that image. We have pecans, so Texas is southern (in the Dixie sense). We have avocados, citrus and desert so Texas is western too.

    Parts of Texas are culturally Southern and parts are culturally Northern. I'm in and of the culturally Southern part.

    Once on glocktalk a discussion was speculating on Texas seceding from the Union. Individuals from all across the country were certain that if Texas did secede, their states would join Texas in abandoning the East and West coasts. I recall we were also able to get assurances from half of Canada, also.

    Growing up in Irving we had neighbors who were emigrants from Great Britain, and I had a piano teacher who was an Australian war bride.

    ^ I didn't get that. Also, I was born in California haha, but I'm pretty much all the way a Texan

    You just said it.

    You were born in California.

    Add that with 'pretty much ' and we figure you for a Damn Yankee .

    But I moved here when I was 4 and all my parents/grandparents are Texan born and raised. I just forewent the "born" part. It's not my fault my parents were navy brats!
