For the past 5 years I've really been focusing on losing weight. Starting January first I want to start counting calories and be more healthy. . Id like some advice about how much I should eat and what are some food recommendations. Im 5'10 125lbs and i work out for 60 minutes-90 minutes 6 days a week. I currently workout only at home using water jugs HAH! and youtube videos(angiefitnesstv). . If you'd like to be a mentor for me feel free to message me. I have quiet a few fitness questions.

If you want to gain muscle mass, you need to eat above maintenance and find a progressive lifting program. I've done stronglifts 5x5. I like it and now run my own version of it twice a week.

Do you know what your maintenance calories are now?

Lift, eat, sleep, repeat. Literally. If you want mass you need food. Mainly protein, fats and carbs. You will need to eat slightly more than what you workout then have 1 cardio day followed by a card blowout before you restart your week. There's a lot of good posts here to get I to further detail. Feel free to add me, my wife and I are getting serious and we need accountability friends

Maybe start at 1940 and working your way up to find your maintenance levels and then increase them to find the appropriate rate of gain?

There isn't an answer as such - just an estimate. Even if there was a way to get a perfect number your food and exercise logging accuracy/inaccuracy would have an impact.

Pick a number and after a month adjust based on your weight results.

It's a trial and error process to find that calorie intake. Everybody is different and it also depends on your natural metabolic rate which only you really know best. Try lower and gradually add 50 calories every week.

Thanks everyone for the advice! I learned that my weight was wrong, I'm 140lbs. I'm going to start with the recommended calorie intake to maintain that my fitness pal gives me and see how it goes.
