    I use an Oxo (max 11 lbs) and love it. Not sure it's "the best", but I've tested it w/ weights I know are spot on and it's accurate.

    You should be able to get one for $15-20 that is quite accurate. No need to spend $50.

    This is what I have, and I really like it, although I don't find it to be accurate when what I'm weighing is under 4 or 5 grams -- it tends to assume there's an error and tare itself back to zero.

    I've had mine a long time (used it for baking before I took tracking my food intake with it), so I don't remember what I paid for it, but I priced it recently for similar thread and I think it was pushing $50, so maybe not the most affordable, either.

    But it's durable and easy to clean, the batteries last a long time, I like the pull-out display for when I'm using a large plate, and I like the large weighing capacity (11 lbs/5 kg), which lets me weigh entire casseroles, pots of soup, etc. for the recipe calculator.

    I have some mechanical monstrosity. I should probably upgrade but I'm doing fine with it.

    As long as it is digital and as you have a healthy budget, a well respected brand would be good. Do some online research if you want to but any scales should be half decent.

This one can handle up to 10 lbs. while still being accurate down to a gram. I have other Ozeri products and have been satisfied wit them.     Pretty sure my mom bought ours at Walmart for like $15 and it's worked great for years. Just had to replace the batteries a few times.

    My scale is iffy at sub-5 grams too. What's helped me is to put something heavier on the scale (like a ceramic plate) and then tare the scale before I weigh the light item on top of that extra weight.

    As long as it is flat (so you can put a plate on it), digital, and has a TARE button, anything should work. I have this one, but I bought it off Groupon for cheaper than that. I basically chose it because it was purple.

    I guess the digital scale I use for weighing my food is actually a postal scale. Dh bought it for another purpose but stopped using it so I grabbed it for the kitchen. It works the same. It has a 5 lb capacity, weighs in ounces or grams, has a tare function. I put a 3lb weight on it and it was accurate. I've replaced the batteries once in 2 years. I've never needed to weigh something that was over 5 lbs personally.
    We've had it for years so I'm not sure what it cost us at the time.
