Joan here for work program - motivational buddies?

Hi,
I'm looking to lose a few pounds. I was using another site to track, but my work, tufts Health Plan, is starting a motivation program, so I'm back here.
I also tried out the "Burn the Fat" program this spring, and started tracking for a few weeks. I didn't keep that up, but it was certainly enlightening. I liked the book, but not the forums and contest stuff. Most of the material on that site is also in the newsletters. Another good site, with great info, is precision nutrition. These types of sites recommend diets that rely on a lot of artificial sweeteners and protein supplements, which I don't think are healthy or necessary.
The calorie goals, 1200 a day for me, on the site seem pretty low and restrictive, and could cause metabolic issues, so I will probably change my goal to be more reasonable, and lose .5 pound a week. Even losing 3 lbs would be nice.
I'm 57 yo, 5'4" and weigh 148-150.
