Not waiting for New Year, Start Now

Hello I'm 52 years old. I have been overweight my whole life. I did make several beneficial health changes about 5 years ago and drop some 30 lbs. I've gain about 15 of that back and want to take it off, plus another 25 lbs to reach 175 lbs. That is a stretch goal to be sure. I do quite of bit of running and some weight lifting. I completed my first marathon this past October (yes!). I am a little bit depressed (ok a lot) I have let myself get too heavy again. I hope to meet folks with similar goals and perhaps we can support each other. My entire family is woefully obese so perhaps I can learn to be an example. I am overweight for one reason...I eat and drink too many calories.

Things I know:
1.) You cannot exercise your way out of a bad diet.
2.) For men over 50 like me, you need to add resistance training of some form to combat muscle loss from aging. Cardio alone is not a good fitness plan.
3.) I am an engineer so I live by "math". Weight Loss equals Calories Burned minus Calories consumed.

Lets do this together! I am not waiting for the new year its starts TODAY!

Major congrats on your first full marathon! I'll be doing a half at the end of March, so I'm getting ready to start training for it.

    Welcome to MFP!
