A thank you from the heart

Thank you to all MFP people everywhere. Your diligence and hard work losing all those lbs, stones and kilos is helping so many others. I work in a hospital and having to move our larger patients takes extra time, extra staff, extra equipment and ultimately incurs extra cost. The extra weight is detrimental to the patients' health as it takes them longer to recover whether it's from illness or from operations/procedures, which also take more time. These issues then impact the whole health system. Although we always do a risk assessment, moving larger patients is also potentially damaging to our own health as we could injure ourselves; backs, shoulders, necks and so on. I feel great empathy for our larger patients but I often feel that they don't quite understand how many others are affected by their weight - people they don't even know. So thank you to you all, you are helping to make the world a better, and a smaller, place.

Thank you for your work in the hospital! My husband broke his leg in January 2016 and spent two days in the hospital after surgery. Seeing the overweight patients struggling to recover, watching the hospital staff struggle to help them, and sitting in a hospital surgery waiting room with the patients' families is one of the primary reasons I realized I HAD to get myself in shape NOW, not later. Anytime someone asks me how I stay motivated to keep losing weight, I tell them to go hang out for a day at a hospital. They will notice that the majority of patients who are struggling with every little thing are overweight, and now they are possibly at a point where they cannot do much exercise to help with weight loss. I understand that I do not know their stories and that thin people get sick and/or injured too, but it really is an eye-opener for anyone (like me) who is in denial about the true effects of obesity.
I have lost 48 lbs since January and will continue into 2017 until I reach a healthy weight. Now that my husband has recovered, he is just now starting on his weight loss journey. We both owe a big THANK YOU to all of the people who helped him in the hospital, and your post shows that this might be a way to help them in some tiny way.7 -
thanks for that point of view. I know I see a lot of people wobbling along who cant walk because of weight. Food is good but it is not worth it. We need to think more of the consequences. This post makes me think, thank you.

As the daughter of a nurse (she always worked nights), I'd like to thank YOU for all you do for your patients. Oh, and pass this thank you along to all your colleagues, you are all awesome.2
