Eating Low Carb in England

Hi, I'm looking for advice from those of you who live in the UK or have traveled there. I've lost 127 pounds and only have 10 to 14 to go. I follow a low carb lifestyle. I'm traveling to England for three weeks, starting Sat. We'll be in the Grantham area for two weeks and then in London. Am I worrying for no reason? I'm bringing some protein powder, Atkins bars, and nuts with me for backup but I'd love to hear from anyone who follows a low carb plan in the UK. As we'll be dining out for the most part, will I have any issues avoiding carbs?

    You will not have any issues at all if you know what foods you can and cannot eat throughout the day. Just avoid the Crumpets and tea we brits all like to hammer. :laugh:
  • Thanks. Most of my diet is lean meats, vegetables, etc. but I do intend to indulge just a bit.

    Boot the chemist ( a drugstore chain) sells Atkins bars and shakes. Also the low carb megastore online shop has tons of products and delivers really quickly.

    Relax there are thousands of us low carbers in the UK.

    They do sell food in England. There are even Supermarkets in some places

    I live in London, you could start your day with a full english breakfast (eggs, bacon, baked beans, sausages) will keep you full for a long time as well. Places that sell sandwiches such as Tesco M&S, Pret a manger all do wraps with chicken or meatballs as an alternative to sandwiches. Look out for Holland & Barrets health stores, they sell nuts as snacks and healthy bars.

  • Re-reading my post, I realize how ridiculus it sounds so I realize my worries are probably unfounded. Just curious if the Atkins phase was as big a deal across the pond as it was in the States about ten years ago.

    Baked beans? I would of thought they were a total carb fest?

    Sausage, bacon and eggs for breakfast, no thank ye to the fried bread - problem solved :D

    Hi, I live in london you won't have any problems at all. Many restaurant chains now include nutrional info on menus and will be very accommodating to specific requests. Some also will provide meals off menu if you ask nicely :-)also healthy, filling protein based salads from marks and Spencer's are a good choice for lunch on the move or a quick meal and there are M&S stores everywhere. We have excellent health food stores such as Holland and Barrett, gnc, who can fulfill your protein powder and supplement needs including low carb foods and snacks, so I wouldn't bother bringing it out with you and save your luggage allowance for extra shoes
