No, they don't work. A calorie deficit works.

Back in the day I took prescription "diet" pills (speed I'm sure). Yet here I am....again.

Even if a pill could help you lose weight, you still need to figure out how to keep the weight from creeping back up.

Sorry I didn't word this properly, I don't mean pills alone but I mean with healthier eating, calorie deficit and exercise too. A few people have recommended using them alongside doing this so just wondered x

Yes, you can. They will have a very small effect. Typically they are stimulants like caffeine, ephedrine or yobime which will raise your BMR slightly which can add up to maybe an extra 1/2 lb of weight loss over a month or so. For most people this is not worth the potential danger of such drugs like ephedrine. They can also give you insomnia which is one of the worst things you can do to yourself. Also, since the effect is so small, it's really easy to just eat back the calories burned by your increased BMR so you have to be counting calories either way.

Pills come with the note "in conjunction with diet and exercise" for a reason. It is the diet and exercise that do the work. Save yourself some cash and possibly bad side effects.

Some MIGHT help with appetite control for a bit for some people.

Personally I needed to learn how to eat for the rest of my life so I can maintain my weight loss. Even though this process is ever so slow I'm trying to look at it as a way of life.

There is something to seeing a fast INITIAL weight loss that helps motivate people through a long weight loss journey and if it helps you get that then try something, but honestly if they really worked most of us wouldn't be here:).

No. It is the eating (in a deficit) that causes the weight loss.

Don't use diet pills along with eating healthy & doing exercise because guess what.......YOU will be doing all the hard work. YOU will be the one responsible for your weight loss, not the pill.

Give yourself the credit.....don't waste your money on crap that only "works" when you are eating at a deficit (dieting).

Someone posted the statistics for the drug Alli. When she broke all the numbers down it was truely pathetic. So much money for so very little additional weight loss. Scary side effects (ugh!)

Learn portion control, learn what foods are satiating for you, find activity you enjoy.....you can word it a dozen different ways.........there still aren't any short cuts.

This site is designed for users to measure & log food. Plug your stats in, it will give you a calorie goal (before exercise). Make the weekly weight loss goal high, and your daily calories will be low. A too low food goal can be frustrating. Patience.

Measure & log everything you eat....the good & the bad. Don't try to be perfect.....instead learn about foods you enjoy. I still eat chocolate most days.

If there were short cuts everyone would already know about it....including you.

Honestly, this is all that truly works. Every diet pill out there has "works in conjunction with diet and exercise" printed on the bottle. It really makes you wonder, doesn't it? Weight loss is achieved alone by eating at a deficit, so if these pills truly worked, why would they print this on the bottle?

All weight loss pills do is make the CEO of that company a very happy person. ;)
