PIIT28 REVIEW! (1.0)

I don’t know if anyone is interested in reading this, but I just finished round 1 of a workout program and I thought I’d share my results.

WHAT

So PIIT is a program created by Cassey Ho (@blogilates) that focuses on fat loss and building muscle. Its a high intensity interval training program (HIIT) that alternates high impact cardio with bodyweight strength training (pilates based). You only do each move for 45 seconds with a 15 second rest period between each, and there are 4 rounds each day, which roughly equals like a half hour a day. You focus on a different muscle group each day.

You have access to videos for each workout, warmups and stretching sessions. There’s an e-book and also a ton of gifs for each move. You can comment to other users to ask questions about form, etc or just to rant about a particularly sweaty workout. There’s an optional meal plan, but I didn’t buy it, so I can’t speak to that. The price was around $39 I think, and you have access forever.

WHY

I decided to do PIIT28 because I’m at a point in my life where I can’t consistently get to the gym. I know a lot of people are basically gym or bust, which is awesome, but I know that when I’m working 80-100 hour weeks again, I will have the exact same excuses that I had when I put the law school weight on. I cut out the travel time to and from the gym, and I thought this would be a great first step for someone who needs to focus mostly on fat loss.

RESULTS

I lost 10 pounds in 28 days. I grew a butt, guys! (I had the world’s flattest *kitten*) Still working on it, but(t) I am so pumped about that. I amaze myself at how much stronger I am. Things that I HATED 28 days ago are easier and, dare I say, enjoyable (burpees. mountain climbers. and so on and so forth). But the coolest thing is that I ACTUALLY LOOK FORWARD TO MY WORKOUT EVERYDAY. That is just wild to me.

I have lost a lot of weight at different times in the past, but sometimes working out just felt like torture. I always liked lifting weights but I would force myself to run despite the fact that I just freaking hate running. This time I am feeling such a mental shift. I’m craving my workouts. I feel happier and more productive.

PROS

Variety: The moves are always different, so if you tend to get bored easily this is a good choice. Modifications: some of the moves are really tough, but Cassey provides modifications for everything, so you can work up to it. You’re constantly seeing improvement of the NSV variety. That is one of the most motivating aspects of this for me. It’s pretty quick. You can always supplement the workout with other things once you start getting used to it. This was the most important thing for me, since I know time is a huge issue (I was writing the Bar exam!) I feel so happy. I said this before, but I like having someone to constantly remind me of my form and to motivate me. I think if you are someone who likes group workout classes, you would love it. After your first month, a few new videos automatically become available to make your next round more challenging (an added strength training video & an ab video) The stretching videos are AMAZING. I did not take the time to properly stretch my body at all prior to this. My flexibility is getting better and I notice way less muscle soreness. All you need is a yoga mat. I don’t even wear shoes.

CONS

The video doesn’t auto loop at the end of each round. I think this is so you can go take a water break and come back when you’re done. Its not a huge deal to have to restart the video to start a new round, but sometimes I wish it would. I am aware this is a lame con, but it’s something I would still change. I wish there were a few different warmup options. It gets a little boring and I will sometimes just do something different instead of the warmup video. There is a second version (2.0) which is NOT included in the price. Its apparently much more advanced. This kind of sucks tbh, but you do get a discount when you finish 1.0. I bought it simply because I have had really great results and genuinely love the program, which is the most important part.

The TL;DR version is: I like it. I lost some weight, gained some muscle and some happiness. Sharing because I wish I tried it sooner? It also opens the door to strength training in a non-intimidating way since you start with body weight.

Since I finished this program (and the 2.0 version) I have gotten into a full weight training regime.
