Staying active with a broken foot

So I broke my foot a while back and have already gained 20 lbs. I've been fairly depressed for the past 2 months. So any help with staying motivated, strong is much appreciated.
Thanks

Do you have access to a gym? You can sit at most resistance machines so you don't put pressure on the foot. Are exercise bikes an option for you at this point? I've never had a broken foot, so I'm not sure how doable that is. I have played wheelchair basketball before - if you are able to use a wheelchair, it's a decent workout. You may be able to borrow or rent one at the local mall.
Keep in mind that what you eat probably plays a bigger part in weight control than exercise. If you can keep your calorie intake low, you can lose weight without the activity.
Good luck!0 -
Maybe pilates or planks also. Depends what your range of motion is0

I'm in the same boat! I'm concentrating on the food as someone had mentioned. I haven't done much exercise since I broke my ankle because I feel like our bodies need to heal rather than be exercising. Also I don't want to get my boot all sweaty and gross! Lol. Now that I'm feeling better and have the itch to get moving again, I'll be working out my arms, planks and push-ups from the knees and I found a wonderful circuit workout that is done from a chair. It consists of lifting your legs up to your chest, side bending and touching the ground, those sort of things. Best of luck, I know it sucks but be patient and always remember abs are made in the kitchen!0

Sorry to hear about your broken foot. I also broke my foot (fifth metatarsal/Jones Fracture) in October. That break takes forever to heal. I'm finally able to walk in shoes again (after 2 1/2 months!) but I have continued swelling and some pain, which I hear is normal for this break. I was very good about watching food intake at first when in my cast but over the holidays I was not great and now I'm probably up 5-8 lbs, which is why I'm here. While in cast and then boot, I did arm weights, modified seated yoga, planks and push ups on knees, lifting weights on legs while seated, but probably not as much as I could/should have. Now I'm also stationary biking but still can't do vigorous exercise. Anyway, it does get better, slowly. Just try to move as much as you can without putting any weight on foot. But you also need to concentrate on letting that bone heal. Good luck.1
