I'm trying to lose about that much too! My only requirement is that no matter if I go over my calorie goal, I must log everything.
Good luck!8 -
Depending on start weight that may be a bit ambitious/aggressive but you can most certainly make a great dent in it!2

I say 80 lbs is possible!!!! In 2016 I lost 62 lbs. I could have worked harder and lost more. I say shoot for the stars ✨ !!!6

I am setting my goal to reduce my weight for my 40th HS reunion in Oct 2107 by another 80 lbs. I even quit drinking and now on a Specific Carb Diet to remove Gluten and Cassein. So far one week and 5 lbs2

Depending on how much weight you have to lose, it is possible. I started in July 2016 and am down 59.8 lbs since then. I started with 120 lbs to lose though, so that makes the difference. Weight loss does slow down as you lose the weight. The first few months I lost around 10-12 lbs each month. Obviously that slowed and now I average 5-6 lbs a month which is right on track with my current goal of 1.5 lbs per week. I say this because of you only have 80 lbs to lose, once you get within 20 lbs of your final goal, you'll probably lose at a pace of .5 lb per week.
Definitely focus on little goals with that much to lose. I haven't focused on my end goal/weight. I focus on small goals. Once I hit 40 lbs lost, my next goal was to lose 10 more by Thanksgiving. Once I met that goal, my next goal was to be under 200 by New Years (9 lbs to lose) and I met it. My next very small goal is to lose .3 lbs by tomorrow to hit 60 lbs lost by my 6 month mark...etc. Making smaller goals makes the whole process easier.
Read up as much as you can on here. I have learned so much just from those on here who have been very successful.
Use a food scale to weigh everything. You will have the best results this way.
Good luck on your journey!!

I have also set a goal for 80 lbs this year to help meet life insurance lower premiums. Of course, that isn't the only reason but it is definitely a motivating factor. Has anyone tried to compliment their regimens with green coffee and apple cider vinegar supplements for hunger control?0

My goal to lose 85 pounds this year! I deserve it! Good luck to all of you! I'm getting ME back!2

Im in the same position. Have 70+ I need to lose. I cant decide whether I should do Weight Watchers or Myfitnesspal. I know WW works but wonder if MFP is as successful.
Has anyone had better weightloss with either?0 -

No supplements will help. You have to just create a calorie deficit. Reason I am so against the supplements is because they will do nothing to teach you about moderation. They may temporarily help with hunger, but what happens once you stop them?? Eat good fats and protein and you won't deal with hunger. The first few weeks are the toughest to adjust, but It is definitely possible. I used to binge until I was physically sick before. I now am perfectly satisfied with smaller portions. It just takes time to adjust.

I have 130lbs left to lose (lost 70 so far), and I'm hoping to lose at least half of that this year. Good luck!4

I want to lose 80lbs. You are not alone in this.0

If you work hard I think 80lbs in a year is totally doable. I've done it before. Just work towards small monthly goals so it's not overwhelming! It's what I'll be doing0
-
I would love to lose 80, but I am trying to keep my goal more realistic, so I am aiming for 60 this year. Best of luck to everyone on their journeys, and anyone is always free to add me as mutual support!!0

80 lb is my goal for this year, good luck everyone0

80 pounds is my goal as well. I am not putting any time limits on myself, I know the closer I get the slower the pounds come off. I will enjoy the speed while it lasts.0

My goal is 60 in 2017. Good luck to all, I know we can do it. I would like this to be my last time. I have also debated Weight Watchers vs MFP, for me MFP works better. I feel less restricted and I like keeping track of me macros.0

I have used WW many times and MFP. For me they work equally well, but MFP is free!1

I also have about 80lbs to lose. I've done it before, gained it back so I know I can do it. Just hoping to get it off and most importantly maintain. No where near the support for that as there is losing.
I'll worry about that when I get there I guess haha. Feel free to add me anybody0 -
Best of luck to you! Calorie counting does work if you do it right. I lost 60 lbs in 2015 but gained it all back when I got pregnant. So I'm back at it again hoping to lose that 60 and then some.0

I'm looking to lose 80lbs also. Please add me if you want ☺1

Depending on what you have to lose 80 lbs is plausible. I lost more than 80 lbs in 2014. However, I think it's probably a good idea not to focus too much on a time goal and instead on things you can totally control, like consistently working out, hitting your calories (and a reasonable calorie goal), whatever other goals you may have (like home cooking meals, making specific healthy changes, running a half marathon, stuff like that). That way you don't get hung up only on the number and end up feeling disappointed if you "only" lose 70 or some such, or feel you need to take extreme measures to speed it up. The truth is that even if you lose, say, 50, you will look and feel better and be encouraged to keep going. I felt that way even with the first 20 or so lbs, such a feeling of difference and that I was back in control and enjoying what I was doing.
Also, I actually disagree with the idea that you can do it if you "work hard." IMO, it is probably going to work better, especially with so much you want to lose, if you don't think of it as having to be "hard" or require extraordinary sacrifice. You can lose weight consistently and a LOT of weight in a year (if you have 80 to lose) simply by making changes that won't feel that hard, IMO, and you are more likely to sustain them if they don't feel like a struggle.
Just my two cents. Welcome to MFP and good luck! ;-)1
