Everything about my skiing was ugly, but I burned some calories and got outdoors. The reward was the scenery. If you haven't been to Alaska, you should visit sometime. iq7u9eeayqjg.jpg

I did snowshoeing for the first time yesterday! Such good exercise and now I won't dread the snow! Beautiful picture.

I've been to Alaska, that looks like Wyoming. ;) Just joking. Good job on getting out. You too, @jenxbowers. Winter doesn't have to be dreadful. I hike, snow shoe and downhill ski. Getting out keeps the crazies away. This week will be a challenge with temps in the -20's at night, maybe hitting 0 during the day.

I love cross country skiing and snowshoeing. We had enough snow for it before Christmas, then there was a major thaw with lots of rain for 2 days and now we only have a little. Hopefully more will come, but the forecast is for another couple of warm days including some rain.

Wow! Most excellent. :) Are your calves super sore? What about your arms?

I'm trying to determine if there is anything that isn't sore. You seem to use all of your muscles when you're flailing.

What are you going to do??? I usually soak in epson salts to help with my aches and pains. Drink alot of water.... and tylenol arthritis.... and stretch.
When are you going to ski again? Do you downhill ski too? Thats the bomb. :)
Don't ask me to snowboard. :D I got to see my brother munch it too many times. I'm glad he can still walk normally. I need my kneecaps thank you. :)

That's why I haven't added snowboarding to my list of winter activities. The one time I tried many years ago, I thought I was going to die. I had sore body parts I didn't even know I had!

Taking it easy today and knowing that I earned the soreness. I was drinking water like crazy last night. I haven't downhill skied in 20-something years and wasn't good at it, but I bought an alpine touring setup so I can head that direction later once I get some skills.

I tried snowboarding once and it was a total disaster. Very weird experience having your legs tied together.

Nice setup. :) Yes. Tied together. And then bamm, there goes your kneecaps, and bamm there goes your face and head.

And your butt and your wrists and on and on.

I far prefer cross country skiing or snowshoeing to downhill or snowboarding. I find it burns a lot more calories, and I get some really good pictures as well.

I'm waiting for some more snow to get out and revisit x-country skiing and snowshoeing. Its been a couple of years since I did either one.

I've heard they groom trails in Anchorage and they're free to all?

Yes, there seems to be quote a number of good opportunities here. I'm going to be checking them out. I'm totally new to CC skiing.

Are those AT ones your only skis or do you have skinny ones too?

I keep considering purchasing better CC skis, but the winters around here are so tempermental while one year I could get a lot of skiing in, other years there will be none, or only a week of good conditions. This year there was about a week and a half before Christmas that would have been good, but I had a huge amount of work to do, so I couldn't get out. Then we had a post Christmas thaw with rain, and have not had significant snow since. Hopefully after this early January thaw we are having now the snow will return.

No skinny ones. It was a big chunk to get these and they'll be more universal for search and rescue stuff once I get skills.

Not from that outing, but here's new from last weekend at a park. Hope you like. A couple show ice fog.
