Hey! I'd like to be adopted please! I'm 21 years old and weigh 320lbs. I've tried losing weight before, but lost motivation about halfway through. Now I am very serious about this. I hate being unhealthy and overweight at 21. My goal weight is 200lbs by the end of the year. I live in Canada, but not sure if that matters. Please help me!!

Welcome to MFP, you will find a lot of support (and critics) here to help you on your journey. Make sure you are weighing and measuring your food and honestly tracking everything you eat. You will see in your food diary where you can make swaps to hit your goals.
You can totally do this, I think your goal might be too aggressive, but it is something to shoot for. break it down into mini goals so you can celebrate successes along the way. Getting under 300 is a great starting goal and one that you should be able to achieve fairly quickly.
Your stats are pretty similar to my daughter, she has lost 30 lbs and I see so much confidence and happiness come with that loss. I look forward to watching your journey and motivating as I can along the way!0 -
Hello there! I'm not sure I should be the one "adopting" you because I'm at a struggling point, but we have some similarities if you want to travel the journey together! I'm 25, weigh 339, and my ultimate goal weight is 200 (I'm quite tall, so I feel this is a comfortable weight for me). Add me as a friend if you would like!0

I've only been around for 6 months & my goals were much more modest but feel to add me as a friend. I sent you a friend request. Your goal translates to losing 10 pounds per month. At your weight that is plausible but ambitious. MFP recommends 2 pounds per week. Did you set your system to know what your calories ought to be for your goal? If not read the getting started stickies.
Two of the reason I think MFP works is that it's about baby steps, making small changes. That makes it a true lifestyle change, rather than some deprivation thing you can't maintain. For me to lose weight I have to get rid of the soda & the wine. Both are tough. The soda was easier. Wine. . . will always be my calorie nemesis. My food calorie intake was never the problem but I can drink my daily calories easily. I have to be vigilant about that.
Getting to eat back your calories is wonderful. Yours will be higher but I'm supposed to eat 1200 calories per day. If I exercise & burn 300 calories, I get to eat 1500 that day. Last week on vacation I took a long hike, my first one, and was shocked that I burned over 1,000 calories that day! I was so proud of myself but boy did I enjoy dinner that night. Without MFP & the increased strength training I did, I never would have accomplished that.
Don't think that you have to do anything drastic. . . life is not the Biggest Loser TV show but it doesn't have to be. I read a magazine article recently that said even 10 minutes per day helps.
Welcome to MFP & the fist days of the rest of your healthy life.1
