Morning or Night?

Does it really make a difference to your metabolism if you work out in the morning or can I work out at night just fine?

I'm starting a new job tomorrow that requires me to wake up at six am. So I'm trying to be in bed at ten to get my full eight hours plus most week nights, my husband works until nine.

If it would be more beneficial for me to exercise in the morning, that means a five am wake up call and nine pm bed time. I lose that hour with hubby but I need to get healthy and lose weight which is better in the long run.

Help?

I find if I workout in the morning, I workout harder than in the evenings. But I can't workout most mornings so I deal with evening workouts.
Workout when it fits your schedule and find out which you prefer.

The best time, is the time you will do it.

    ^ This.

Your metabolism works 24 hours a day and what time you exercise won't make any significant difference in weight loss or fitness. Doing workouts at a time that fits your schedule best is far more beneficial than missing workouts because they don't fit your schedule.

Having worked opposite shifts like that I would suggest getting your workout in while your hubby is at work, maybe even a nap, so you can see each other for an hour or two before bed. It makes no difference when you exercise as long as it gets done. In the long run going to bed at 9 would be bad for your relationship.

I'm not a morning person, so if working out involved a 5:00 am wakeup time, I'd be missing a lot of workouts. The only advantage I could see to it is that my workout would be done before I even realized I was in my body. :)

    Whatever works for you.
I cant do mornings, not for lack of time but rather because I just dont function well before breakfast and my workout would suck/

I don't have time to do a long workout am or.pm, so I split it. 5:15-5:30 wakeup for a 40 min am workout, then a quick 30 min run, circuit, or weights at the gym before heading home works for me.
Whatever you can work into your schedule that suits your needs and you enjoy...

I'm the opposite - I workout better at night because I have more energy from feeding myself during the day - I always crash early doing early morning workouts.

OP, do what best fits your schedule - you're more likely to maintain a routine that way.

If you really want to maximize calorie burn during exercise, you need to do it at night while the earth is aligned in such a way that you have all the planets, moon, sun and the center of the galaxy directly beneath you. Their combined gravity will surely make you lose weight in no time!

It doesn't matter for metabolism, other than building lean muscle which is the only way we have to affect it at all.

I like to work out in the morning because I get lazy at the end of the day and am more prone to skip. The more I sit I like to sit. I move early, I tend to be more active all day.

LOL I didn't know that David "Avocado" Wolfe had a account here!

OP, it really comes down to personal preference. Personally I find if I work out too late in the evening it takes me a while to wind down and go to sleep; I am definitely a morning person, for me getting to the gym or going for a run at stupid o'clock in the morning starts my day off perfectly.
