Caramelizing onions...

When you caramelize onions, do you leave the lid on the saucepan or take it completely off?

    Off, or they boil in the condensation created and don't carmelize as nicely.

    I leave it of and cook them very slow at frist so they soften then start caramelizing. :glasses:

    Off for me too...I just had pierogies with carmelized onion and fresh garlic the other day.....YUM!!!!!:bigsmile:

    OMG! I just did a search on MFP for caramelized onions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :sad: Is there REALLY that many calories in just cooked onions?!!!!! OMG!:grumble:

    Depends on how you camelize then some people use lots of butter or and plus sugar or ect so it depends on the recipe to determine calories (I do mine by using alittle EVOO and Onion so the cals are pretty low. )
