Low Carb?

Has anybody tried cutting carbs and doing a more protein based diet? Today I adjusted my carb intake to 20 grams or less, but also kicked up the protein a bit to compensate. I did this once in the past but can't remember much about it.

As a general rule, mosy people who cut carbs will mostly boost fats rather than proteins. That's a ketogenic diet. I've eaten that way (20g carbs, 70 something protein, 110g or so fat) for quite some time. I expereinced a lower appetite, better health (insulin resistance) and lost weight pretty quickly.
It can work well for people. Just keep in mind that once you stop a diet and go back to your old way of eating, you will get the same results as you did in the past.

What it comes down to is eating in a manor that will address dietary compliance, goals, and any medical requirements. Ultimately, keto will cut water weight initially, but it does not create faster fat loss. For keto, you sodium should be around 3000-5000mg per day. For protein, you would put protein around .6-1g per lb of weight. Also, you want to concentrate on getting adequate electrolytes (sodium, chloride, potassium, magnesium, calcium) as they are critical to life. Some people do have to supplement. If you do, I would highly recommend www.labdoor.com as they do independent analysis on brands of supplements.0
