I love my coffee in the morning. I just can't figure out how a cup of black coffee can account for 62 calories?! Anywhere else, black coffee is reported to have 2 calories. Am I missing something??

I'd scan the container. When I first started and entered "Maxwell House" it came back with 300 calories lol. I then scanned the container and it shows 0 per cup. :)

Ain't giving up my coffee lol.

Search the USDA nutrient database for authoritative nutrition info. Never trust the MFP database at face value. A large number of its entries are user-entered and incorrect.

Odds are that black coffee entry was someone who added sugar.

Search for "coffee brewed from grounds" which is the verified entry MFP added from the USDA National Nutrient Database. It is for only the coffee, and the bonus is that it includes potassium.

I assume my black coffee has negligible calories so don't track it.

It's 2 calories per cup. It's likely you're using an incorrect entry that someone put up to use quickly for their regular cup with sugar or something in it.

Or it's a really, really, really big cup of coffee that's much larger than 8 ounces.

Where did you get the calorie info from? The entry I use has a cup at 2 calories if I brew at home. If I am purchasing elsewhere then it depends if they add anything but plain black coffee should be 2-5 calories.

Just so you know, verified entries are not necessarily enter by MFP and can indeed be wrong. If an entry gets enough people clicking yes on the 'is this info correct' button, the item can automatically get a little green check and still be completely wrong. There is at least one item in the database that's been "verified" that has something like 10,000 calories listed, but I don't remember what it is. Always double check the entries.

Verified entries aren't always right, but verified entries that MFP imported from the USDA database are correct (unless there is an error in the USDA database). CyberTone didn't appear to be arguing that all verified entries are correct, but that this particular entry can be relied upon because it was added from the USDA database.

If something seems too high/low in calories always double check, and check the macros as well. I've seen bananas and potatoes with 0 carbs and potassium, as some people only care about calories There's some whacky entries in the data base.
