Hi all

What exercises do I do to flatten my stomach. I have lost close to 15 lbs but now i want to start giving my body in shape. I have y'tubed it & all they talk about is ripped abs & those exercises scare me. All I'm looking for is ab exercises for beginners.
'& no, I don't want to do 250 pushups or sit-ups like a previous post said.

Thanks

There's an popular expression that states "abs are made in the kitchen" ... which has a lot of truth in it. Without a good diet plan, you can do 1000 sit-ups a day, and never reveal a four-pack. The same goes true for a flat stomach.

So, the first plan is to look at the diet. If you have some belly fat, you'll need a calorie-deficit diet and patience. I think it was AnvilHead who first brought up the terms in these forums: "fork putdowns" and "table pushaways" as the names of the exercises most involved with a flatter stomach.

Once the belly fat dissipates, whatever strength training you've been doing in stomach will reveal itself with defined abs. I don't think many people need to do a lot of ab exercises to show off a four-pack, they just need to lean up a bit. So, unless you're ambition is to get a really defined set of abs (or 6-pack), then stick with doing whatever sit-ups/crunches you can do.

If you're bored with those, then here are some other exercises that I like:

    Hanging Leg Raises
    Pallof Press
Abwheels (you can do this with a barbell)
    Side and Front Planks

Hope this is of some help! Good luck!

Caloric deficit/diet, work (cardio mixed w/ compound strength training), patience. Most everyone you see with a slim abdominal area don't actually do an "ab" routine.
