So. Little help?

I hate to say it, but I'm at a little bit of a loss here.
I just can't seem to build up the drive to work out, in my house. I want to, but every-time the thought even crosses my mind, a barrage of excuses and reasons not to fill my mind.
I should elaborate on myself, first, as it's a bit of an awkward position.
Over the course of the last year, I've lost over eighty pounds. Starting at a whopping 260(and 5'9", mind you), I began to work-out in a Weight Training class, and even joined the basketball team(small school, no tryouts). Halfway through the year, I was forced to switch schools; but I still retained Weight Training. To substitute basketball, I took up boxing. Each Weight Training Class was about an hour long, and both basketball, & boxing, were 2-2 1/2 hours long. I had basketball five times a week, and that weight training class for 1 1/2 hours, 2-3 times a week. Then when I switched, I had Weight Training for 45 minutes, five times a week, and boxing four times a week.
I'm no stranger to that pain. I'm no stranger to the ache in every bit of your body, after successive workouts on end. I've lost a lot of weight(especially for someone my age; it's a colossal achievement, and it's made every part of my life exponentially better), and I'm proud of it, but I'm lapsing. The lowest I reached was 180lbs. Now, I've hit 190, and I really want to work out again. I go to college in July or August, and I want to be in the best shape of my life, when I do.
The problem is, I'm under a lot of stress. All of these college shenanigans, applications, suspense, etc, are all putting me under in terms of energy. Factor in depression, classes(lots of AP, and a well-known knowledge by the teachers that I'm above the lot; I have specific requests for work, that benefits the school), a... very... close loss in the family, and you've got next-to-no enthusiasm to exercise. Now, add-on to the fact that my chosen career is in Computers. Mind you, I actually want to become a Game Designer; I know, it's cliched. It's not exactly a physical-exercise-encouraging job. I've been learning a lot about how to do it, and am already in a leadership role of a grounds-up studio I've been putting together; but this means I'm stationary on my non-school days, And when I am free(I admit, I slack; I enjoy Youtube, and play a decent amount of video games), I tend to not think of exercising. ADDITIONALLY, I live with someone very(to use my "nerd" slang)... toxic. Working out inside the house is an incredible drain of any inspiration, motivation, or drive to do it in general. As for outside, well, it's the middle of winter, and rain is pretty frequent. I don't have any experience in working-out in the rain. Is that even a good idea? I never been bothered by the cold; I've grown up in the mountains, and can walk in snow barefoot, shorts, and a T-shirt. Warm-blooded, I suppose.
I don't have any machines or equipment, and while I'm in basketball again(back at that first school), I can't drive to practice. I know. It's weird. But I don't like driving. At all. Something about it simply... does not click with me. I hate it, and hope to drive as little as possible. In college, I will presumably walk, or engage in public transportation. The person in my house can drive me, but badgers and argues relentlessly(putting me in a horrible mood), or straight-up refuses, so I'm lucky if I manage a single practice in a week(I don't play anyways). In the spring I'll join a combination of 2 of either, Golf, Track, and Basketball. I will have more transportation and all then, but that's a long ways away, and life has a way of ruining plans.
So, thoughts, I suppose? Way back when I started that journey, it was all spurred by just a touch over the edge. Post-NFL Kicker, Ryan Dutton, was my principal, and I talked to him about fitness. He encouraged me to really get out there, and get working. My chemistry teacher also helped; they pushed me to keep going, and never let me simply stop.

I love running and walking in the rain, it doesn't bother me a bit.. in fact I prefer to work out when it is raining!
I hate driving too and walk in any scenario that it is possible, so I totally understand where your coming from there... any chance one of your team mates could drive if you split gas money?
Working out and playing sports is a huge stress reliever, it helps with anxiety and depression as you probably already know. If there is a way you could stay on campus and work out or do practice without going home first it may help your motivation. When I was in college I always worked out before I left school because I knew that as soon as I got home I was never going to get up and do it. It might also solve your driving issue since you won't have to go back and forth.
That is so exciting that you are getting ready for college and doing so well that people are expecting a lot from you, but don't let it freak you out, the next few months are just like the last few years so just keep at it and view it as part of the course work. The world won't end no matter what happens and you only have control over so much so don't stress yourself out about it too much. You obviously are doing amazing already so just remember that when you get overwhelmed.1 -
first off, congrats on your successes during the last year !
I'm in maintenance now, but prior to that, what worked for me was logging all my exercise & food (even holidays & cheat meals) into mfp. I'm a numbers kinda gal, so seeing the trends / charts / results was motivating for me.
And I made mfp my homepage, so it's a good 'mindset' to be in when I turn on the computer.
Lots of support on mfp, you're in the right spot

Walking / hiking is a good way to clear your head & destress.
Commit to 20 minute minimum each day (and log it into mfp to stay accountable)
It's a amazing how many calories are burned, especially with elevation change.
btw~ had some horrid weather here, so I decided to do my walk at Walmart !! Felt silly at first, but got over it pretty fast. Walked those aisles like no one's business !
when I was finished walking, I did my shopping. Left that store feeling pretty good.0 -
Check out this article
There was a study from Standford University.
It found walking improves creativity AND problem solving.
With all those AP classes & busy schedule, you can kill "at least "two birds with one stone.
And lose weight while you do it. Ha!

Thanks for the thoughts, Debbie. I have been trying my best to keep things in MFP, and so far, am logging all my foods. I'm bound to slip-up sometime, but it's good already starting strong.
I have actually contemplated runs and walking. I went for a run the other day, while waiting for a basketball game to start a few hours later, and found I really enjoyed it. Coming from a person that hates running, AND is incredibly flat-footed; that surprised me. Especially since I did it on a whim.
I guess I've had a stigma against something as simple as walking, since I'm used to gym-like workouts. I suppose that I've needed to feel something more solid.
Does make sense, though. Blood circulation, and basic exercise allow for a mindset outside of your current problem-area. Especially if you like the area you're walking in, etc. It's been proven that exercise in general can improve your mood, and general state of mind; walking is no exception. Factor in fresh air, and what-not; it's good all around. Rather convenient that I'm a total pacer when I'm bored, then~
Sadly, though, there are no Walmart 's where I live. It's a small mountain-town. But, on that note, it's more hiking for a calorie burn, I suppose. If it's not absolutely pouring, I can always use a jacket on a run. ^w^ Thank you, Debbie~0 -

I guess I never really though about working out in the rain? I mean, it kind of seems uncomfortable. I'm all for the coolness, and I do absolutely love the rain; but getting soaked? I mean, jackets do get soaked, after all, and I don't have any special workout clothes to wear, other than shorts.
I have contemplated asking someone to drive me home, and I do have some people who would do it; but I hate making people go out of their way. I could give them gas money, but many of them live next to the school, and my house is ten-to-fifteen minutes away, across town. That's a twenty-to-thirty minute drive, just for me. I don't want to make people go out of their way like that; I can barely get over my social anxiety and introvert-ness to be there in the first place.
I can indeed stay on campus, and I usually do when I have the chance. Those days I plan to get in a solid run on the trails behind the school, before basketball practice. That will be real nice, and I plan to start Monday(I might have a game Monday...) or Tuesday.
It's actually kind of awesome-feeling, to have teachers, the principal, and even the superintendant congratulate you on things you make and share. In fact, I'm going to be working on a hype-montage-video for the basketball team, to bring in some more people to home games, so that's going to be fun ^w^ . But, on the other hand, the priveleges can be ruinous. I have to work with some famous playwright-actor-guy(and ugh, this guy is a straight-up genius) for a Poetry OutLoud competition; County finals. I joined the group on a whim, and won by default, so I'm not enthusiastic. Then, I'm also running as a social-media-intern for GAINs, a community group like Rotary, that runs a lot of stuff in the town. Ever seen a work-a-holic teenager?
It is incredibly exciting. It's absolutely mind-blowing, really, to go to college. Going from highschool, to this sudden freedom; two states away from the world I'm used to. It's absolutely stressful, and a massive source of excitement. Especially because I'm likely to go the second-best college in the country for what I want to do. But everything about the planning, college applications, scholarships, financial aid, and loans, is just barraging me from all sides. I'm working through it all, but boy... it's an adventure.1 -
Buy an umbrella, and go for brisk walks in the rain. If you can walk up hill or up stairs somewhere ... even better!
You're not made of sugar ... you're not going to melt if you get a little wet.0 -

Well of course not. I enjoy the rain, and wouldn't mind getting soaked, if it weren't for catching a cold. Freezing cold and wet doesn't exactly add to a good time.
I might use an umbrella though. Although that kind of limits it to solely a walk.

You're in a small mountain-town ? cool !!
Change in elevation is a bonus.
Re: walk / hike in the rain.
Grab yourself a cheapie "emergency poncho". ask/look around, you'll find one
I used a cheapie one for a 5k, and worked great.
I'm in earthquake territory (Calif), so I keep emergency stuff like this in my car.... parka, poncho, extra shoes, flashlight, reflectors, first aid kit etc.
walmart, drug store, convenience store, sporting good store etc

Since you're into video games/game designing, do you ever watch Twitch during your down time? I have a couple of streamers that I enjoy watching, and instead of sitting while I watch I jog in place. Not the best workout, but I still get some movement in and burn some calories, and I enjoy it (especially if the streamer is playing a suspenseful game).0

Funnily--or coincidentally-- enough, I live in Cali too! Up in the Yosemite area~
I think I actually have one those. Might finally have a use for it! Sadly, living in the mountains, my internet is horrendous. I can barely watch Youtube at 360p, so Twitch is out of the question. But if I a good video on Youtube shows up, I'll keep it in mind! ^w^
Thanks, Marie.0 -
Dang, not even that emergency poncho can save me now.
This rain. will not. stop.
(San Francisco Bay area)
Had to try 2 alternative routes to get home today, due to flooding and road closures.
Got home, to find my driveway is now under 4 inches of water & getting worse, since the driveway is at a lower level than the surrounding area/street. Thank goodness the house sits high!!
No driving /walking for a couple of days for me ....
Guess I'll have to jog in place, while watching TV to get any exercise ! lol.
