People who are trying to quit smoking as well as get heathy!

Hey y'all!
This is the first time I'm going to really try and quit. I'm to the point where I'm tired of feeling a slave to my habit! Mind you, my most is 5 a day, but that's still quite a bit!
I'm 23 and the Director of Youth Development at a Boys & Girls Club & have kept this dirty little secret for 4 years.
I want to be able to talk about this with our members & partners & feel like I'm being the best example I can be for our club!
It's not easy.. I know that.. I've tried to quit several times and have only Made it a couple of days. I'm hoping to find like minded individuals to help me through this journey!

  • Im with you Jac....really just started my "health is my focus" journey and I see the layers of mind I need to wash...At this point, I am most focused on weight, exercise, and nutrition and just hoping the smoking habit will fall off while focused on these other aspects. Its a whole body experience. Overall, I feel good about the idea of being gentle, patient, kind, and non-judgmental with myself. I hope we can be friends and support each other in this journey.

Hi...I started MFP in Feb '16, at 298 pounds. I was smoking essentially a pack a day, sometimes more, sometimes less. I used Chantix for 6 months, but near the end, started smoking again (you CAN smoke on Chantix.) As a side note, I had none of the side effects you hear about, except that I vividly recalled my dreams. The drug didn't change my dreams...I didn't have any nightmares or weird themes, at least no weirder than usual, just vivid recall on waking.

Anyway, I successfully quit smoking on Oct 13 this past year by taking Chantix and using a device called a QuitKey. It's a small electronic device that tracked what I was smoking for 7 days, then told me when to smoke for the next 30 days until it weaned me down to my last one on Oct 13. I continued the Chantix for another 2 weeks, thru the end of the prescription.

    I've been smoke-free ever since.

And I've been able to lose or maintain my weight goals throughout, except over Christmas, when I gained about 7 pounds back.

If OP or anyone else wants to discuss the strategy in more detail, or just wants to add me, send me a FR with a note and let me know you found me in this thread.
