Five years ago, this month, I started seeing my therapist. We started working on Depression, and she gave me a worksheet that lists small activities to try when depression starts to settle in.

In a weight loss, weight gain, muscle gain community, I believe that a lot of us, at least, began our journeys because we were depressed with ourselves. And when we lose motivation some days along the way, some of that sadness tends to seep through.

So I wanted to share this list. It has a lot of helpful points that I've personally found incredibly useful over the last several years, with my own edits in order to gear it more towards weight and body health specific needs. Please note, this list is not my own work, it is a worksheet from a pamphlet that is unknown to me author or title. I do not take credit for this list, I'm just here to share:

*Plan your day with some activities you have to do and some activities you enjoy. When you've completed them, focus on how they made you feel.

*Break down difficult tasks into smaller incremental parts. Sometimes progress takes a little more time. It's okay to pace yourself.

*Give yourself credit for even the smallest things you get done.

*Remember that everyone has bad days and it's okay to slip up. Focus on living one day at a time.

*Get emotional support from a friend or family member. Spend time with your pet(s). Cuddle with your mate.

*If you need to talk to someone, then talk to someone! Don't bottle up how you're feeling. If you need to let it out and get some support and motivation, no one will know unless you make the first step and ask for help.

*Listen to or help someone else gain their own motivation.

*Get some exercise, even the smallest amount of movement will help. Especially if it's an activity you enjoy.

*Get out in the sunlight as much as possible!

*Eliminate sugar, caffeine, and junk food from your diet. A reward every now and then is okay, but these listed items amplify depression when consumed all the time.

*Reward yourself! You're doing great, and you totally deserve that special something you've had your eye on.

*If you're not feeling up to being active for the day, get some cleaning done, read a good book, watch a movie, listen to your favorite music, etc.

*Wear clothes that make YOU feel good. Don't worry about what other people think.

*Take a long, hot bath.

*Keep positive thoughts in mind. Yes, you need support from others, but a lot of your support and motivation comes from inside yourself. Don't fuel your journey with negativity--love yourself, and don't degrade yourself to get through.
