Once I started eating less and losing some weight, my GERD all but disappeared, unless I drank too much beer, wine or ate anything with tomato sauce. Try just not eating as much, then try to identify the foods that trigger it, and stay away from those.

I have GERD as well! Mine was worthy of a visit to the doctor and he prescribed me with omeprazole. The medicine usually works just fine, but if I miss a day I am very bloated and can only get down about one meal per day. If you're not on any medicine for it, definitely cut back on the bloat-triggering foods. For me, that unfortunately meant bread!

I suffered from GERD for years and was miserable. Anything I ate affected it. My doc had me on Omeprazole, 20 mg twice a day which worked great, but if I missed even one dose...ugh...major heartburn. Now that I've lost weight my GERD hasn't been an issue and I haven't taken any Omeprazole in months. If I do happen to get a little mild heartburn I simply mix a ½ tsp baking soda in 4 oz. of water and drink it. Bye bye heartburn.

If you've got so much pain you can't eat I definitely recommend seeing a specialist. By not eating, you might be letting all the acid you produce do even more damage. Have you seen a specialist or just a general doctor?

A specialist can do an endoscopy, which is a sedated procedure where they insert a camera down your throat and look at your esophagus, stomach, and top part of the small intestine. It's the only way to tell if you simply produce/reflux too much acid (GERD) or if you have a more serious condition. Good luck! Hope you can get answers and relief soon.

It's a weird one, but do you exercise? I'm unsure of the logic behind what i'm about to say as it's worked for me and I didn't intend on it. I have really bad GERD due to a hiatus hernia and it's got so much better since I started going to the gym. I've not lost much weight yet, so it can't be that. Maybe it's my stomach muscles tightening making my hernia feel better (so might not work for you) who knows. I take medication for it, but i've cut my dose in half since going to the gym.
