Mapmywalk gave me 400 cals (walking) but by logging in distance/time MyFitnessPal gave me 300 - does MFP take off basal cals automatically when MFW doesnt (they both have my vitals!)

Thanks

MFP does not subtract your BMR (basal metabolic rate) from the estimated Calories earned in any of the Cardiovascular section; that is one of the reasons some users either log only about 75% of the total minutes or eat back only about 75% of the earned Calories. You can use the MFP APPS > BMR calculator on the web version to get an estimate of your BMR for 24 hours, then divide that number by 1440 to determine your estimated BMR per minute.

I haven't used MapMyWalk - I've used Runkeeper. Those apps use the GPS feature of the phone to track your route. It is possible (I don't know for sure) that they can account for hilly terrain and adjust the estimate. Again, I am not sure.

The important thing to note is that these apps are only estimates.
