Recipe builder

Ok I need a lesson for dummies with the recipe builder. I've heard so many people say it's such a helpful tool but anytime I have used it to doesn't seem that simple. 1st question it asks is how many servings. I have NO CLUE. An example is I made a big pot of soup. Lots of veggies and other good stuff. This pot is huge. How do I know how many servings without slowly counting cups or something? A simple breakdown would be awesome. Thanks!

I made soup last night. First weigh the empty pot and make note of it. Start by calling your soup one serving. Then weigh your ingredients as you add them to the recipe builder so it's accurate. When your soup is done weigh the pot again. Subtract the weight of the empty pot. Now change your serving size to how many grams your soup weighs. I use a gram per serving. So if my soup weighs 2000 grams it is 2000 servings. Then when I dish out my portion it doesn't matter if each serving is equal. So today I had 475 grams so I log 475 servings.3

Oh. Em. Gee. This is the most genius thing I've ever read!
I was honestly just using the recipe builder for single serving things that are staples for me (I.e. Breakfast sandwiches, smoothies, sauces I make) so I don't have to put the individual stuff in every day, didn't know how to make it work for multiple servings... now I do!

Hi, It really is helpful to me. I use it all the time. But, unfortunately, you really will need to measure out the whole pot of soup for the size of portion you think you will be eating each time. If I was you, I would measure out how many cups of soup is in the pot. Then when you eat, you can put in your diary say for example1 cup, 1.5 cups, 2 cups for example. I made up some chicken salad just tonight. I measured out 4-3 oz portions, but I put in that it made 12-1 oz servings. That way if I want to have more or less, I can weigh it out in ozs. Hope this made sense and helps. Good luck.1

Once you have the total number of grams for the recipe, all you need to do is weigh the portion you are eating in grams. Far easier than using cups, and less dishes. Not to mention that grams are far more accurate than cups especially for solids, but even for liquids.0 -
I just call the entire soup one serving. Then I weigh my portion and divide by the total weight of the soup.0
