Y'all never seem to take binge eating disorders into account when telling people not to cut things out of their diets.1

Well, yeah, that's why all vegetarians and vegans are slim.

We are not doctors. If OP mentions that they have a binge eating disorder or are claiming red flag symptoms most of us would not advise them here but would encourage them to seek professional help.7 -

Yes this. And cutting things out can be bad for BED, which is why people on the internet aren't the right people to treat the problem.4 -

On the flip side, for some, cutting out foods can actually lead to orthorexia.
We're not doctors, and OP didn't mention ED.
I've been in BED recovery for many years now...and I haven't cut any food out of my diet. Cutting foods out lead to anxiety and binging for me...not good.5 -

You're right, no one here's a doctor, but I sure see a lot of people trying to claim that their way is the only way. If this person want to cut stuff out of their diet to live a healthier lifestyle, let them. If it doesn't work for them, they'll come back and ask for new suggestions.1 -

I was once new here and I truly believed that I had to cut out foods for weight loss. Once I learned this was not the case, I was quite pleased. It is a common misconception that cutting out foods is required for weight loss, so when I do see posts that point out cutting foods is unnecessary, I immediately think that the poster is simply trying to educate rather than push their eating habits upon the new mfp-er.8 -

Binging is tied heavily to restricting.
At least in my case it was.
While I don't think I have BED, I was trapped in a cycle of binge/restrict and have read a lot of literature on restricting leading to binge behavior.
The only way out of the cycle for me was to stop restricting.6 -

This. It was a revelation for me as well, and was instrumental in my success in turning my thinking around and enabling me to form a sustainable way of thinking about food.
This is the first time in my life that I've successfully dieted. I have battled with weight for 40 years.
Restricting some foods may be necessary for some people for some time as there can be individual trigger foods that are just too hard to moderate. However, needless over-restricting isn't really a sustainable way to go about dieting. Medical necessity often dictates some people restrict in certain ways, and that's cool. But then again, that's not needless.7 -
Eating meat is actually not bad as long as it's cooked in a healthy way. I stay the hell away from carbs. It's a love/hate relationship between me and carbs. I love them so much but I have no self control so I stay away completely.0

There's no "easy" or "enjoyable " weight loss plan on earth. Once your body gets used to a strict diet and hard workouts, you start to enjoy yourself. Whoever's telling you "don't cut out soda or candy" is a total bullshitter. Those people have no idea how to lose fat. Cut out sugar and bad carbs completely. Eat high protein and healthy fat. What you're doing is no bad. Actually that's the way to go. If you consume carbs such as candy, white bread, soda or potatoes and workout at the same time, you will burn what you ate not your fat. Don't do cardio too much, resistance training is gonna help you gain muscles and lose fat mass. Have a cheat day once per week where you consume all junk food, soda whatever you want to eat to keep you sane. It actually boosts your metabolism and keeps you on track.0

Same here. Learn what works for your body. Personally, I avoid white bread unless it's really really good really really fresh sourdough or similar because white bread doesn't fill me up. White rice, white pasta and potatoes, on the other hand, I have no issues with at all.
And I eat "candy" every day - if you call dark chocolate "candy".
Other people will have different foods they prefer not to waste calories on and different foods that they consider "worth it".4 -

Great that cutting carbs works for you. I thrive eating most of those things you mentioned on a daily basis.
But wait, I'm confused. First you mention to cut it all out completely, then you say it's ok to have the junk food once per week. ??
Anyhow, do what works for you OP. You may have to experiment, if you can't moderate, you may have to cut things out temporarily until you can. Use MFP to track your intake and eat food you love, try new recipes and experiment with different flavours, make one small change daily (ex. eat more greens, walk around the block, try that veggie crock pot soup for dinner).. and you will get there. Good luck!4 -

Cut out sugar and carbs completely? Ffs, my 100lb weight loss is proof that there is no heed to cut carbs, and I am not a bullshitter (the proof is in my progress photos which MANY have seen) and neither is anyone else. You keep saying that cutting carbs and sugar is a necessity for weight loss. This tells me you know js about how the human body works, how science works, and what calories are or what CICO actually is.
Look around. There are many successful people who have lost weight, obtained the body that they want AND maintained weight. Congratulations, you single handedly insulted the hard work of those who took the time to research the science of weight loss and lose/maintain themselves.
Also, dietitians actually disagree with your rude post in which you contradicted yourself by saying "don't eat carbs/sugar if you want to lose weight, but cheat days with carbs and sugar (which will demolish a weekly deficit, btw) are okay....4 -

I want to lose at least 44 lbs.
I have cut out soda, candy, fast food, and meat.
Or anything that screams unhealthy!
I plan to eat 1400 cals a day
And workout 30 mins a day 10 minutes cardio ( machine cardio) elypitcal/ treadmill/ bike and use the rest doing sit ups/ leg kicks/ planks/ wall squats/ push ups / arm circles/ flutter kicks.. at home stuff.. Also going to be using tricep machine for arms..
Is this a good plan? Adjustments? Tips..
You do you, OP, and if it doesn't work, then try something else. If anything, I'd recommend going for diet soda or sparkling water, just to help with the transition. Also, instead of cutting out meat completely, try cutting out just red meat. Go for chicken and fish. If you're really set on cutting out meat, though, eggs are your friend. Moderation may work for some people, but not for everyone. I personally feel better and less hungry when I get most of my calories from fresh fruit and veggies, whole grains, and fresh protein sources (fresh chicken cuts, eggs, and, because I live by the ocean, very fresh fish). I was successful on this plan for 5 years before life threw me a curveball, but now I'm finding success on it once again. If you find that doesn't ring true for you, that's fine. What works for me may not work for you.
My only recommendation would be not restricting calories by so much. I average 2,400 a day, with a net of 1,700 on average after exercise. Don't try to lose too much too fast. I did make that mistake when I first started and I felt awful.0 -

I've lost 94 pounds eating potatoes and Snicker bars.
You burn fat by creating a calorie deficit.2 -

Dark chocolate is usually my choice too, but my son got his braces off the other day and wanted to get caramels. I've been taken with those lately myself. 45 calories each. Delicious.1 -

No wonder you feel losing weight can't be easy and enjoyable, if you associate it with "strict diet and hard workouts", cutting out "sugar and bad carbs", eating "high protein and healthy fat", and then having weekly cheat days to eradicate whatever calorie deficit you may have achieved through the week. That is a miserable way to live. That is also your perogative, but be aware that it's a choice you are making, based on correct information and your own values and preferences. If you consume carbs such as candy, white bread, soda or potatoes and workout at the same time, you will burn what you ate not your fat.Don't do cardio too much, resistance training is gonna help you gain muscles and lose fat mass.1
