Double Dipping

I was logging my steps and exercise in the MFP app, but then had a thought - 'was this double dipping'? Am I getting double calories from the steps and exercise being logged as I would be racking up steps while exercising? What does everyone else out there use? Steps for the day and logging no exercise, logging exercise and no steps, or something else? What's your thoughts?

What are you using to track your steps?1

Your activity level is going to account for some steps and general activity...I only ever logged deliberate exercise beyond my activity level. If I recall, sedentary accounts for up to around 5,000 steps or equivalent activity.1

If your steps are adding calories to what MFP is giving you according to the activity level you put in I would not eat back exercise calories in addition to that. It kind of is double dipping IMO0

My FitBit One gives me calories in MFP. If I log exercise separately, it subtracts some of the calories it gave me. So, no double dipping.2

I use a jawbone to track my steps and sleep Just like Fitbit it adjusts my calories from mfp. However I clean houses so I move a lot exact reason for getting the tracker was for accurate calories burn instead of putting in cleaning house as cardio. Now with all that being said, when I go to gym and do treadmill, bike, etc I take off tracker and input the calories burn.1

Malibu927 - I was using fit bit, but then got the gear fit. It doesn't connect to MFP though.
Cwolfman13 - Yes I was doing the same when I had my fit bit. My concern was though was getting calories for exercise, but then also for the steps I got while exercising.
Aqualeo1 - Yeah I try not to eat back my extra calories or use a little as possible.
Kshama2001 - That sounds good.
Jackiefrost1013 - I was thinking of doing the same thing about taking off my tracker for actual exercise and imputing that separate. Does this work good for you?0 -
I log exercise in Fitbit. If I'm doing cardio, I don't wear it because I think that = double dipping. If I'm doing weights I leave it on as there isn't much actual spatial movement. Besides this, I take my exercise calories with a massive pinch of salt!0

Sounds like you are perhaps logging double, stick to logging just one unless your other exercise isn't step related, then you would log that.0

Okay. Fitbit doesn't double dip, as exercise logged on MFP will overwrite that time period on your Fitbit. But if you're entering all of your walking from Gear Fit as @cwolfman13 said, then you will be running into issues. Your activity level already accounts for a certain number of steps. Until MFP can work with Samsung on this, you should only be logging any actual exercise you do.3
