10 pounds to lose!

Hello everybody,

I am new to MyFitnessPal and I'm just new at counting calories too!
I currently weigh 143 lbs for 5 ft 7 in. I am 26.
I want to lose 10 pounds, because after the age of 25 I noticed that my body and especially my belly started getting fat.
When I first logged into MFP I chose "sedentary" and my calories goal was 1200, but I was worried about my health and I exercise every day (I run at least 4 miles 5 or 6 days a week) so I changed it to "active".
I chose to lose one pound per week. :)
My net calories goal is 1530.
I think that's all about me :)

Nice to meet you all!

  • Thank you! I hope it will be a safe journey for you!

Welcome to mfp! I struggle with my calorie intake amount decisions all the time. I'm 5'4", had a SW of 154, and want to lose slowly so that I don't have to set my calories too low or depend upon working out too often (it's July and I HATE working out in the heat!) So I set it to .5 lb loss per week and am happy to say that I'm not starving to death. This site makes it easy to stay engaged - even during the hot months. Hope you continue to enjoy the site!

My best advice as an MFP'er for ten months is:

1.Log everything you eat. The good, the bad, and the ugly.
2.Read as much as you can about nutrition and don't just focus on calorie deficits, focus on making those calories count. You can lose just as much weight eating 1200 calories of garbage as you can 1200 calories of nutritious food, but what have you learned about healthy eating? Eating low calorie garbage is how I've lost and regained the same 30-40 pounds ten times. This time I did it differently, and this time it's for good.
    3. Give yourself a break. If you blow it one day, don't use it as an excuse to say "well this week is shot, might as well live it up". Drink a glass of water and move on and start tomorrow fresh.
    4. If your current caloric intake isn't working and you've given it 4-5 weeks, consider "upping" your calories. I know it's counterintuitve to eat more to lose weight and I was incredibly skeptical when I read it on here. But it jumped started my weight loss when it stalled. If you aren't eating enough, as I understand it, your metabolism slows down.
    5. Take all advice you receive (including mine) with a grain of salt. Educate yourself independently on good lifestyle habits and do what feels right to you.

    Welcome aboard!

hi welcome, i'm on my last 10lbs to lose and they are a b***h to move, i recommend cleaning your mates bedroom in a heatwave! i did that at my friends on monday and lost 2lbs might go over and do the rest of the house for her!
seriously though myfitnesspals database of foods is huge and it is dead easy to use and i find the calorie limits they give you just right.
i have been putting myself down as sedentary because i work at a computer, and i add all my exercise (running, cycling and dog walks even shopping trips) on as extra. i find that way works best for me
    good luck xx
