Calorie intake

Hi Iam trying to figure out if what Iam doing ,is doing more harm to my weight loss progress . I am supposed to consume 1489 cal a day to stay at my same weight ,and it says to reduce your cal 500~800 cal to lose weight ,so I'm eat 1000 cal a day . What Iam wonder is this ,I go to the gym 4 times a week doing body combat which burns 730 cal in a hour on average .so on those days I'm eating 1000 cal and burning 730 . Is this a good thing ,or bad .ive been told two diffrent things ,one being I'm starving my body by not eating enough cal on the days I go to the gym ,and others have said it is a good idea , does anybody have any suggestions to this .
