Hey everyone!

I'd like to start doing some weightlifting but right now I'm not able to make it to a gym consistently(and I don't know when that will change). I was hoping to be able to buy something so I can do it at home, but I'm hoping to keep it simple. My initial goal is weight loss, but ideally I would eventually like to continue to lift. I was thinking of just getting a barbell with some weights but would that be good enough for a while if I can't get a big set up with it? Or would Dumbbells or kettle bells be better? I really only have room/funds to get one of these things right now so that's why I need some experienced opinions.

Thank you in advance!

In setting up my home gym, I went with dumbbells instead of kettle bells so I can use them for a variety of things in place of a barbell (overhead press, bench press, etc.). I didn't want to have to worry about doing a bench press with a barbell and needing to get someone in my family to come spot me, and I didn't think I'd have as many options with kettle bells for the things I'm doing.

That being said, I ended up getting a barbell and set of plates for Christmas so I'm using those now for my OH press and deadlifts.

(I'm definitely not an expert on this so hopefully someone else with more experience will give an opinion).
