Not so much off of the road.. but stay to the far right on the freeway.
Left lane, blue hair & age spots, 45mph at 5pm on a Friday, out of state tags, left turn signal flashing.
.... not great for anyone1 -

Out here it's always somebody in a jeep or a pickup truck doing 45 mph in the passing lane.1 -
Yeah? What if you're 80 and there's no bus service? How you gonna get food with your social security check budget? Cab? Uber? Doubt it. All the sons and daughters have moved out of state to further their careers. Or they're in detox or rehab. These oldsters are on their own with an infrastructure that isn't on their side.
Calm down young whippersnapper. You can be inconvenienced for 5 or 7 extra minutes on the drive to the mall to allow for an elder to get home with a few cans of Campbell's soup and a loaf of bread.
True... to an extent.
If I'm 80, I'm not driving on the freeway, particularly at rush hour... nor am I probably driving at night.... or in the pouring rain.
Groceries, doctors' office, church. .. etc.
Go for it. Just be cognizant of the driving conditions you're going to face.0 -
I don't mind if you're slow...as long as you're in the right lane. And if it's a one lane road, if you're going 10+mph under the speed limit, put your 4-ways on.
Most of the people in my town who clog the road aren't old people...they're just are unaware of their slowness, think they're driving faster relative to others than they are, or just don't care how they effect others

I feel sorry for elders who are car dependent. In my area, buses are almost always an option for the basic necessities. Not true for rural areas though and most suburban areas. I wish we could change that and bring easy access public transportation to every town and county in the U.S.
Yeah, my mom has never been comfortable driving in the city ( or most anywhere ).
If she has a doctor appointment at 9am, she gets a ride or takes a cab.
Grocery runs occur during the day.
Also.... it's the *kitten* that drives 10 miles under the limit on the freeway which texting that makes me a lil crazy.0 -

I've tried to be more conscious of older drivers for that reason. You're right about our infrastructure.
Here in Arizona, they sometimes stamp the h/c symbol onto the rear tag.
If I see that, I try to give them a wide berth.

Then there's my husband. We're driving home from a holiday trip out of state and we're taking a backroad that was ice covered, hilly and very curvy. He's going what I thought was too fast for those conditions (60-65). I asked him how he knew the road wasn't slick. He replied, "cuz we're not in the ditch." I just closed my eyes and hung on.2
