740 calories don't show

I woke up feeling miserable today. Hubby and I, both felt like we got hit by a truck. Nothing dramatic, just a cold. I got the chicken noodle soup out of the freezer and we bundled up and spend the day on the couch, binge-watching TV.

Nothing tastes right when I am sick, that's pretty much the only time I don't have food on my mind. I have a sore throat, talking and eating hurts.

I had a few crackers and home-made chicken noodle soup.

I logged it in my diary and I got the following message:

Based on your total calories consumed for today, you are likely not eating enough.

For safe weight loss, the National Institutes of Health recommends no less than 1000-1200 calories for women and 1200-1500 calories for men.

Completing your diary with fewer than the minimum calories noted above will not generate a news feed post for that day, or show a five-week weight projection.

Even during weight loss, it's important to meet your body's basic nutrient and energy needs. Over time, not eating enough can lead to nutrient deficiencies, unpleasant side effects & other serious health problems.

While I get that I didn't eat enough today, I do wonder why it doesn't show in the news feed. I can't possibly be the only one that doesn't want to eat when she is sick?

I wish there would be a button where I could say "sick leave" in the news feed, so that my friends know I am still there and kicking.

You can post directly to your news feed. Just go to Home and you can write a message, similar to Facebook.

MFP has a minimum calorie requirement for diary completion (1000 calories) to discourage those who try to use the program to fuel unsafe weight loss practices. You're sick, so it's not a big deal. Make a post on your wall saying you're sick and you ate what you could if people want to look at your diary (although I wouldn't want anyone doing that when I'm unable to eat).

Do your friends really care that much about your daily eating habits? Just post a status if it's that concerning.

I am a "virgin" here. Just started and I still take it all very serious. I do hope that friends here do care about my eating habits, especially if I "fudge up."

The message took me by surprise.

Some may but many will not. Depends on the person. I don't pay attention to those posts and do not look at diaries unless a person asks for help. Other people look at diaries without being asked.

you could also just not mark the diary as complete - then you won't see the messages - I rarely do for that reason

I use this more than Facebook at this point, honestly. I usually make a status every few days or so encouraging my friends or updating about my life.

I'd just post something to the affect of, "been sick all day. Way under calories couldn't manage to eat much. Hope you all are well."
