Striiv (fit bit type device) and elliptical.

Has anyone found a solution to the fact that these devices do not seem to count steps on an elliptical? I log that exercise independently but I would really like my step tracker to be more accurate. I read somewhere that you can put it in your pocket or on your belt loop and it will be more accurate because your hip is still moving even though your wrist tends to be more smooth and therefore the steps aren't counted. Has anyone tried this? It's just mentally frustrating to see 5000 steps at the end of the day when I know I did 5000 steps on the elliptical alone.
Thanks!
Thanks!
