edited November 2024 in Getting Started
Last year I planned to start doing virtual races regularly, but I was still struggling with plantar fasciitis. That's finally resolved, and I completed my first 5K and 12K in December and a 10K earlier this month, plus I'm in the midst of a 200 mile challenge. Any other virtual racers out there looking for friendship and support?

I personally love the visual motivation of the medals, and tracking my miles and participating in the related Facebook groups keeps me motivated. I plan to do at least one per month and am even going to do a virtual half marathon in two weeks (split over 2 days; as a 52 year old flabby woman, the flexibility is another thing I love). I plan to do some in person runs when I get more speedy, but for now this is perfect for me since it's all about getting those miles in and I can improve at my own pace.

Slightly off topic:-( how did you resolve Plantar? I've been to osteopath, podiatrist and had several months off to rest and still suffering, you're one of the few I have seen who has overcome PF.Only 2 days on MFP so have no ideas about virtual racing- checking forums now......

I know how hopeless plantar can feel. The main thing that helped me was switching to Oofos sandals. I live in FL and was wearing flip flops with no supper, which made the problem much worse. The sandals, combined with exercises (I bought a plastic exerciser to help me) and compression socks overnight eventually brought relief. I also used a night boot for a while but quit because it was so uncomfortable. I still wear my Oofos and do my exercises as a preventative measure. Good luck!
