How do I know what activity level to set it at?

Your activity level on MFP is any physical activity you get during the day, not including exercise. So if you work a desk job, you would choose sedentary. If you're a cashier or waitress, choose slightly active, and so on.0

It's completely an estimate. Pick one that you think is the best fit for you, then as time goes on you can manually tweak your calorie goal to better fit the progress you want to see.0
