Hi! I am searching for a new place to call home. I logged on CalorieCount.about.com and now they are shutting the site down and switching over to Verywell??? Doesn't seem to be any place to log there or communicate on message boards at the new place. I only had a little view of My Fitness Pal, but it looks comparable in features so I am hopeful I can resettle here and continue to log my food and exercise, chat and challenge as before with some of you!!
I am in a weight-loss mode since May losing over 40 pounds and still need to lose a little over 30 more to get to the top of my healthy weight range. I aim to eat healthy and avoid sugar most of the time. I am a baker/babysitting gammy so sweets go with the territory, but I've done pretty good and plan to get to my goal this time.
I try to do 30 minutes of cardio each day, missing 1 or 2 a week. I do hand weight 2-3 times a week and I will get in extra steps whenever I can, with my favorite times being while I am on a phone call, watching tv and even crocheting. I walk around the house while doing all of those and more. I rather move than sit to long.
My back story: I started to really try and lose weight in 2001 after finding out from the doctor that my medical issues were due to my weight, 240+ at that time, and I wouldn't be able to be treated with the normal medication because I was a smoker (over a pack a day)........ so I started to eat better/less and move more. I lost about 30 pounds in a few months and took it a step farther by quitting smoking, and then losing an additional 20+ pounds. I sat at that weight (180's) for about 7 years. Pretty good for maintaining even though I would start to climb up into the 190's and catch myself and lose back into the 180's.
After seeing Marie Osmond on TV talking about how she was 50lbs over weight and finally became motivated to start losing weight again. Being 50 lbs over weight after being 100+ overweight felt good, but over time it sank in that I was still obese and needed to lose the rest of the weight. Not an easy task.... I had a few successful attempts at losing, but each one ended with me creeping back up to the 180's before too long. On one attempt 6 years ago I got down to the lowest weight I have ever been (150.8) as an adult by giving up my love of baking.....but that didn't last long as I started to slowly gain after picking up my baking hobby once again. 20 lbs came back pretty quick after that and then I started a new job at an Italian deli and worse I started baking for them. Flash forward 4 years and I was weighing in at 211+.
SO I met someone that lead me to my current weight-loss run and I hope this is the one that sticks
She introduced me to the idea that I need to consider more than just losing weight to lose weight and keep it off.
I am 168lb now and really starting to appreciate how far I've come from 211+ last May. I would like to be at my healthy weight before the 1 year mark, not sure that's going to happen since I've been having trouble since the beginning of October with dropping weight, and that is probable because I've been allowing sweets back into my diet since August, a little more each month. So far January is pretty good, with 1 day eating cookies, too many cookies, but I am a work in progress and like I said being a baker and a gammy I'm lucky I am not eating cookies every day!!! ha
Ok that's it for me, for now
I am thankful that you all are here and hope to be feeling at home soon enough
Thanks, Beth

Welcome to MFP. You're not the only person to come over from CC, so hopefully you'll find some of your friends here. There are a few groups already set up by former CC members, and a few threads as well. Just do a search.1
