I have a co-worker who just joined one of those CRAZY diet fads where she eats NOTHING for a few weeks as phase 1 – and she gets food from them – breakfast and lunch – and is on her own for dinner.
I want to do this and prove to her that it is not needed to join a fad diet and its all about eating healthy, moderation and exercise………… well that’s what I believe anyhow – so I am on a secret mission because all
She talks about is her diet and how she lost 6 lbs the first week (which is mostly water I am sure) but who wouldn’t if you were not eating anything………………..and she is a BIG drinker……………. And I believe has an
Slight problem with it so I know that will come into play at some point. So again I am on a mission to show her that her way is NOT the way to go!

And……….. I am going on vacation in July and would like to be at LEAST ½ to my goal. I work out 3-4 times a week – my problem is not knowing how to eat right ………………… this is where I need the help. And
Healthy recipes that I can make that my boyfriend will enjoy too!

As for your co-worker, any diet that requires no eating for the first week is scary, dangerous and should not be done by anyone. . . If she does not eat enough, she runs the risk of harming herself, not to mention she will most likely binge and gain it all back. The key is slow and steady wins the race.

As for you, if you are serious, you need to honestly and accurately log everything you eat. Weigh and measure everything, set your MFP goal to no more than 1 lb a week and log away. It is not about what you eat really, I eat whatever the hell I want to as long as it fits in my Macros, and calorie intake for the day. Good luck to you!!

Sure they work, for as long as you're doing it. But by their nature, those following them are usually looking for a quick fix, and they go back to their regular diet afterwards and pile it back on. (and obviously, eating NOTHING is super unhealthy.)

Do people lose weight on these fad diets? Of course they do or else they wouldn't be so popular.

For most people, is the weight loss sustainable? Of course not because they go back to old eating habits after they 'finish' the diet.

Depends on what you mean by "work". If you mean learning about proper nutrition, portion size and control, and maintained weight loss, then no, they don't work.

I suggest you not lose weight to teach her that her choices are not the healthiest, rather do it for yourself. If she is sincerely interested in learning how to live healthy, then she will learn from your example and ask what you do. No need to flaunt it or give her lessons, just life your own life.

You refer to her as a co-worker (not as a friend), throw in judgements about her life and want to prove to her that she is wrong and you are right. That's some jacked up motivation to lose weight. Where will you be when you start to lose weight and she continues to live her own life?

Calorie restrictions work. Pick your packaging. But you are your own advocate, and what's more important than your health? Educate.

this co worker is a friend but i was not trying to bash her (too much i guess) just trying to paint a TRUE picture. I am doing it for myself if you read my profile you would know what they were................. so i apologize if i gave you the wrong idea.

Glad to hear she is a friend, that you are truly concerned and want what's best for her. Maybe she will be open to learning from you if you're close.

Using the app, I'm unable to see profiles so I go by what is presented in threads. Thanks for the clarification.
