Apple Watch activity tracker

Went from Fitbit to the Apple Watch and I love it! Lost 4 pounds my first week by working out a little longer, drinking lots of water, and tracking my calorie intake.

Curious to know what other fitness apps others use with their Apple Watch and if someone knows what activity burns more than 500 calories in an hour.

Thanks!

I stick with the native workout app and the rings, and it's really helped me too. My move goal is up to 460 which requires me to do some length of activity every day to reach as I work at a desk and am sedentary otherwise. I'm down 25lbs since June and in way better shape all over. I also use Waterminder and have Cardiogram installed that I look at once in a while when I'm curious about a workout's heart rate profile. I really don't use my AW for much else.

I can burn 200-250 in 30-40 minutes of running depending on how hard I go and the incline. Same for HIIT workouts. You could choose almost anything and it would burn high if you go at it hard enough.

I just downloaded Cardiogram and it's definitely what I was looking for. I'll try some HIIT Routines. I've done some Zumba and elliptical but I can't seem to burn more than 500 per hour.

That's good to hear about the rings, as I was unsure how useful they'd actually be. I just ordered an Apple Watch, which should get here in a couple of weeks. Very excited to start using it to track my activity and sleep!

Swimming is almost a 500 calorie an hour burn for me. Doing an hour of Insanity is second as it is a HIIT workout.

I am pretty Type A/rule follower so I am quite driven to complete tasks I set for myself in the way they "should" be done, and the AW is a perfect fit for that I think. Only thing that is niggling at me about it is rest days. I'd never close the red ring on a day without an actual workout so to get a rest day and not break my streak (part of the achievement chasing I find compelling) I'd have to set the move goal lower manually for the day and that really feels like cheating. :D

OP, the calorie burn question might get better answers in its own thread with a related title. Sure it would be nice to burn a jillion calories but I personally would find that a chore to get to, and without knowing any of your stats nobody could really comment anyway. Why are you fixated on 500?

Congrats. I have the series 2 Apple Watch and love it. I had the original AW as well but sold it as the battery life wasn't as good and I wanted one that tracked swim sessions.

Got the Apple Watch as a gift for Xmas, I think it's the first series), but love the HRM . At 52 it's definitely high on the list, I know it's probably not accurate, but it gives me a good indication that I'm reaching my limit, also the heavy breathing, the sweat and the swearing is also another great indication!
Is it the 'Health' and 'Activity' app on the watch? I use them with of course 'My Fitness Pal'.
But I like the 'Monitor your Weight' app and using 'My Insane Workout' - but having problems with the app after downloading the full version, so be warned!
Although the Insane workout is working for me, I've not completed the workouts in the time expected, but when I started I was hitting over 1000 calories burned off each day for first 3 days, although it was taking 1hr and 15 minutes for me to finish a 24-30 minute exercise! I know rubbish.

Thanks @FitPhillygirl . I purposely waited for the Series 2, both because of the short battery life and the lack of water resistance in the Series 1. As I wait for delivery, I'm currently shopping around for a third party leather band. I'm really liking the ones from Black Forest Atelier out of Germany. :)

Damn! I wrote way more, but didn't realise that the posts were limited!?
If I get a chance tomorrow will rewrite again about the apps I use and the exercises that regularly get me over 500cal

Activity app is on the watch yes, it's the rings system. The Health app is phone only, it's the keeper and director of things and stuff to do with any way you input health data.

Just curious lol I've been experimenting with different activities and It seems like I only burn 500 per hour on each activity. So I was just wondering if other people burned more than 500 in an hour. But now that I think about it, it may be due to my speed, effort, and weight. I'll keep experimenting

All wrist fitness trackers HRM are erratic when doing something other than running, but in the end the calories even out most of the time, even though the average HR is way off in the end. I personally use a Polar H7 Bluetooth, chest strap connected to the apple watch or phone app that I'm using at the time.

How do you like the AW compared to the Fitbit? I really want the watch but I keep talking myself out of it bc of the price and due to the fact that my Fitbit still works.

Oh another thread about Apple Watch. Cool. I had the serie 1 and now I have the two so I can easily compare. What I love about it is you can adjust it to your outfits if your a type that is into fashion. The Fitbit I always felt it was very sporty and bulky. I couldn't wear at engagement parties or weddings. The Apple Watch let me dress it up. Also it was kinda adjustment to the calories burn and movements. I felt the Fitbit was off the charts when came to these things. The Apple Watch, to me, feels more realistic when calories burn and movements.
