So.. What exactly are the benefits of fasting for two days? I know I could just google it, but I'm curious if people doing this experience tangible personal benefits. It would have to have a benefit besides weight loss, otherwise I see no point in fasting when I can just eat a decent amount every day and still lose.

Not bashing 5:2 at all, just genuinely curious what the point is.

    Easy explained

I don't do 5:2 I do 4:3 instead and on my fasting days I have noting to eat at all. That's a personal choice & I love it that way. I fast every 3rd day.... only because with me being ADHD routine is so important to me. Once again personal choice. I stick to TDEE on my normals days, I workout like crazy every single day, I walk a marathon as well as other stuff. I don't have very much to lose at all, in fact I don't NEED to lose anything as I am well withing healthy BMI but I like the fact I don't obsess over calorie counting anymore, fast days are easy, TDEE days are great. I was developing an eating disorder just from counting.

    The science/ rationale behind it:

When you give your body a continuous supply of food, it is always making new cells. Sometimes this is essential eg for children who are still growing, for pregnant women, etc.

But reducing the supply of food, even for a short period of 1 day, puts your body instead into repair mode, where it will fix its damaged cells.
