Soooo after many failed attempts in my past I am yet again trying to quit smoking. My first day is tomorrow and I have decided to try the patch this time.
My question, have any of you quit while on your weight loss journey?? Did you notice a difference in your weight loss, did you gain, stall?? Your answers will not change my decision to quit however I want to know what to expect.
For those that lost at their normal rate...did you change anything when you quit?

Thanks in advance

I quit smoking and within a week decided to change my eating and exercise habits. So somewhat similar of a scenario! I also used the patch and if I can offer some advice- take it one day at a time! Sometimes you just have to take it ONE craving at a time, but it does get easier! Something that helped me tremendously was the Livestrong app for quitting smoking (I'm not sure if it is even still available) but the community on there is awesome and reminds you others are quitting too!
As for eating right, after quitting smoking, I felt like I could do just about anything. I also started running on the treadmill after dinner every night, which replaced my "after meal cigarette". Once I started seeing results (which was pretty quick) I was unstoppable! I lost roughly 30lbs in about 4-5 months or so.

Thank you :) At home thankfully months ago I changed my habit of what I do after eating. I do not run out to have a butt - I clean up, do dishes etc. I started taking as long as possible before going out. I was a boredom smoker...that is what scares me most! I am also afraid if I see the scale going up that I will pick them back up. I have a list of possible things to do when a craving hits and purchased mints and cinnamon toothpicks. I will search for the app you mentioned. Hearing other people's success stories helps give me hope. Thanks again

I'm going through the same thing. My last smoke day was December 5, in order to give my lungs some time to recover before I started exercising. I was on the patches until Wednesday. I began (or should I say returned to) MFP on January 3, the first work day after the New Years holiday.

In the past, when I quit, I did gain weight. But this time, I'm watching my intake, keeping the calories down, and I've lost five pounds. For me, entering foods throughout the day and keeping watch over those remaining calories prevent the unconscious snacking.

I also fill up a 64-ounce juice bottle with water. If I'm not spending time drinking from the bottle, I'm running to the bathroom (no time to smoke!!!)

Watching what you eat, drinking fluids, and moving should go a long way towards getting through those cravings. Good luck!
