Pet loss

I had to put my cat down today. She was 15 years old and II know in my mind it was the right thing to do since she was suffering, but my heart is broken. She was my constant during all these military moves and deployments. I had been doing so well with my calories and eating, but today I realized that food does give me comfort and I rely upon it for that. I told myself that I was going to stay on track, but I couldn't. I will get back on track tommorrow, but if anyone has any suggestions on dealing with loss and food I'd love to hear them. Thanks ❤

I don't have any suggestions but I just wanted to offer my condolences. I just had to put my own cat down last week and there's no easy way to handle it. As my therapist constantly reminds me, just be gentle with yourself and do the best you can right now0

I think that is so sad to lose a part of the family - so sorry. I say to give yourself permission to mourn and eat your comfort foods knowing that you can try to eat a lighter breakfast and lunch, etc tomorrow. Also, I found that going to pet loss.com was a great way to get comfort. You realize how you are not alone for having such strong feelings for a pet. Take care and so sorry again.0

Aww sorry! That's a tough day. Forgive yourself for the slips and just go forward. The learning is that the foods can't change the grief, or heal you quicker. Only time will, and allowing yourself to feel everything. Sometimes we eat to stuff emotions, but it's ok to be raw and feel it. Maybe you can write/journal your feelings or write some little kitty short stories/memories? Create a little book of pics of him? Hugs.0

I am so sorry, and been a few years since I have had to go through this, but I remember how difficult and sad it makes one. If you have a special picture of your beloved friend, make sure it is out somewhere where you will see it often. I found that really helped, I have other cats, but I still keep a picture out of my girl who lived to be 20 years old. Over time it will be all great memories. But for now you are hurting and in grief. And if you overeat a few times, it will be ok, but try to give yourself an end date so it does not go on the overeating. Remember your buddy always.0

I had to put down my 17 year old cat around two weeks ago and it was so hard and it threw me off of my diet/studies for a few days, but getting a new cat and properly grieving really helped me out! When you love an animal so much, it's extremely hard when they pass, but you will get over it, and you can get a nice new cat that's healthy which makes life a lot easier!0

I think you're doing the right thing, giving yourself a break to grieve, and knowing you'll get back on track in a day or two. Food is a comfort for some of us, and you've had a big loss Losing a pet is awful.0
