Dessert weakness

So... the past 3 nights I've had a major sweet tooth problem and very little self control with it. Not sure why.. doing good throughout the day staying on track with calories, by dinner time I have about 800 calories left over (aiming for 1400) then I eat dinner and it spikes my sugar cravings and I ruin my whole deficit plan. I ate like 500 calories of ice cream just now.. dangit.. over the 1400 goal but under 2000 so I guess I'm ok with that. I don't have much to lose 128 lbs right now, been fluctuating between 122-130 the past 4 months and want to maintain 125. (5'5)
Anybody else have trouble staying away from dessert? I'm strength training 4 days a week and walking a lot too. Should I tighten up and be more disciplined? Or just chill out and enjoy life while trying to maintain rather than lose anymore? I'd love to stop calorie counting but I don't think my portion judgement is up to par yet. Not sure if there was really much point to this post but maybe some other dessert lovers can relate and tell me I can continue enjoying ice cream without feeling like a failure afterwards.

For my sweet tooth, I tend to keep hard candy around. Sucking on 3 jolly ranchers or 3 werthers originals is only 70 calories and it keeps your mouth occupied for a while0

No experience with maintaining, but I've always imagined I'd maintain at a range anyway since my body will fluctuate naturally +/-5lbs or so. And I will never stay away from dessert!
All I can say is that if you feel ice cream is a problem for you, either work on a way to control how much you eat of it, or remove it for a while.
I'm working on replacing the large dessert portions with smaller ones. Usually my sweet tooth is satisfied with a square or two of chocolate or even hard candy, but sometimes I have small portions of large desserts. So, if I do ice cream, I have to go through the process of portioning out half a serving of gelato or a richer ice cream, weigh it, record it, and then I can go sit down and eat it. Usually that's enough to A ) satisfy my cravings and B ) make me not want to go through the process of logging again since I'm lazy . Sometimes though, I do go through it again and have another half-serving.
I have personally found out that I cannot have a large bar of chocolate around without talking myself into eating the whole thing at once. Not sure why I have a problem with this, but the full size Lindt or Ghiardelli chocolate bars will literally be inhaled within minutes, while the individually wrapped squares I am easily satisfied with 2, sometimes even 1. I'll break up the tiny square into 4 portions and eat it slowly. It's too bad, because you can usually get the larger bars cheaper by volume Perhaps this is something you might look into with ice cream? There are small individual servings of ice cream that can range between 100-200 calories. Prices are usually terrible, and there is more packaging, but maybe it can help?
Good luck!2 -

Yeah, this. Haagen-Dazs might be the most readily available; I've seen their single-serving containers in most supermarkets. If that's all you have in the house, that's all you can eat no matter how much you'd like to have more.0 -
I eat a pint of halo top for dessert very often. 240 for the whole pint, the ones that aren't chunky.2

if you dont buy it, you cant eat it. at least not without the effort of purposely going out and buying it ..0

You are at a healthy weight, so losing more is probably not necessary unless you care about the vanity pounds.
I think it's possible to lose more without sacrificing your joy in life. If you keep your deficit very small, you can eat a lot more, and you'll be at 125lbs in time.0 -

I agree with this. I would add to it that I like to pick a location that sells sweet stuff and then ride my bicycle to get there. That way I get to satisfy my sweet tooth but the net calories is zero or negative. It can also be a fun family outing to cycle or walk to an ice cream shop for dessert.1 -
You say it's only been the last three nights with the sweet tooth and lack of self control. So were the treats there before and you were able to control your sweet tooth? Do you know why? When I get like this ( I had two Little Debbie raisin cakes, ice cream and BBQ chips last night), I knew I went over calories and will adjust the rest of the week. No biggee. I have about 12 pounds to go. Honestly, if I wasn't consumed with elder care responsibilities and heavier, I'd care more. Taking care of them have shifted my priorities somewhat!0

Have you checked out the recipe for the protien cheesecake on here? It is fabulous. Under 200 cals for a slice depending on your specific ingredients.1
