Does anyone else have a step counter that is not a Fitbit? Looking for other good options. Suggestions?

Depends on your goals and what you want to measure. I think the Garmin Viviosmart HR is very good -- tracks stairs, steps, sleep, does a good job telling me how many calories I've burned, etc. (Does some stuff I don't need -- like telling me what the temperature outside is and that I've got a voicemail ...)

I dislike the Garmin Vivosmart HR. It has software issues so that it can't track individual activities without double counting the calories. My wife has mine now, but just using it as a step counter.

I have a Garmin VivoActive HR and it does not have the issue and is more flexible in what it does.

But what is your reason for not wanting a FitBit? Be aware that a Fitbit is better from the social and sharing side and probably more of your friends will have one. So if that is important to you (it isn't for me), than you may want to stick with them. For me, the FitBit not being waterproof eliminated it as I fish and will be dunking mine when the water isn't so hard.

Had a Flex and now have a Charge 2. Nothing wrong with the Flex, I just wanted one that was an actual watch too.
I didn't use my Fitbit to count calories. I just used it to see if I was active enough during the day. Still do that with my Charge 2 and to check heart rate.

I have a Fitbit HR and I have a Apple Watch. I use to use my Fitbit all the time but the heart rate monitoring wasn't that great. So I wear my Apple Watch all the time. But if you don't have a iOS device then the Apple Watch is pointless lol

My friend has the Fitbit blaze and likes it.
